Learn to succeed in your most difficult subjects!

Do you say "ugh" in the face of math homework? Do you struggle in writing that perfect essay, or in grasping the subtleties of economics or physics? If so, I can help. As a University of Chicago graduate with teaching and tutoring experience in the U.S. and abroad, I have learned and developed strategies for success in the most challenging academic areas.

My teaching style reflects an idea I discovered while teaching English in South Korea: that reference points are the key to understanding new concepts. Try explaining ideas to people with completely different backgrounds and cultures than your own. You will soon find that your explanations are most effective if you can use references from their own lives to illustrate your points; in the case of Korean students, these references were frequently K-Pop songs and Korean Dramas. Even though we may (or may not) be from the same culture, we each are a microcosm of experiences and influences. As a teacher, I adapt my explanations to tap into what you already know to help you deduce what you do not. And because I use Socratic questioning, you will constantly be engaged in your own learning instead of having answers lectured at you.

I know my subjects thoroughly and have a history of success with them. In high school I received grades of "5" on AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Economics Macro and Micro, and AP Physics E and M (among others). At the University of Chicago, I received A grades in Honors Physics, Calculus, Real Analysis (nerd math), Economics, and all of my essay-based philosophy and social science courses. I was on the Dean's List and graduated with General Honors. At Chungdahm Learning in South Korea, my proficiency as a teacher led to a promotion, and I became a Head Instructor at my branch.

So if you or someone you know is looking to advance their understanding in a difficult topic, send me a message. I look forward to hearing from you.
