DePaul University (Graphic Design)
After teaching in a preschool for 11 years, I decided that I wanted to be more creative, and more independent. When I was younger, I did quite a bit of graffiti. So the graphic design field seemed like a natural transition for me. Since leaving my teaching position, I've done graphics for DePaul University, Cambridge Educational Services, and The Onion News Network. I'm now a freelance graphic designer, specializing in Adobe CC software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, Muse, and more.
I have a BA in Graphic Design, and lots of improv and teaching experience. My teaching philosophy isn't about teaching at all. It's about letting the student learn. Through my improv experience, I've learned that listening and letting things happen on stage creates the best results. So that's how I teach: by letting and supporting. I've worked with a wide spectrum of age groups — from preschool to high school — and directed a couple children's plays (Charlotte's Web and The Hobbit). I've also volunteered as a theatre coach for a nonprofit group that helps families find food and housing.
So I've created a WyzAnt profile because my teaching bug hasn't gone away. I still have a need to give back to the community. It is my dream to combine the above skills I've learned in a comprehensive way so that the student has a clear perspective on the subject.
I welcome feedback, and have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I am happy to travel to any location that is accessible by public transit, as I do not have a car.
I look forward to hearing from you! Keep on learning! After teaching in a preschool for 11 years, I decided that I wanted to be more creative, and more independent. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
