About Sarah

Hello, my name is Sarah! I am a kindergarten - 2nd grade special education teacher at a therapeutic day school in Chicago. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in December 2013 with a degree in Special Education and I am also endorsed in Early Childhood Special Education. I have been working at UCAN Academy since February of 2014. I teach Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies. My special education background allows me to take a deeper look into a child and pull out their strengths in order to help them succeed. I strongly believe that every child can learn; just not all children learn the same way. I can provide one on one assistance to help find what works for every individual. Working with children and helping them grow has always been a part of my life and will always be something that is important to me.

Aside from my teaching experience I have a lot of experience working with children. In college I was a big sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program for 4 years. I was also on a Special Olympics volunteer and committee member, Special Olympics Young Athletes coach, and a play group facilitator for children with Autism. I am currently a volunteer LIT tutor for Tutoring Chicago. For this tutoring program I am trained in a reading intense program and tutor students struggling in reading.

I am an energetic tutor who makes quick bonds with children. I am looking to tutor children in grades K-5th in reading or math.
