About Brian

I am a recent college graduate and am weighing my options for graduate school and in the interim hoped to supplement my income by offering my services as a tutor.
I majored in Psychology and had areas of concentration in English, Sociology and Philosophy. I also have been acting since I was fourteen years old and flourished at every public speaking class I ever took. I believe the best method to teaching anyone anything is by making a genuine connection and ensuring that the way I communicate ideas to them is cohesive with how they learn.
I have directed a few plays and the process of directing is very similar to teaching. I must instruct actors how to perform and have them understand their role. My goal would be to foster critical thinking in each student I tutor so they can develop the tools they need to thrive without me.
I am willing to travel and would prefer to work in a local library if possible. I hope that I can help you in strengthening your mind and improving your academic performance.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Logic

I took many philosophy classes in college. I excelled in the areas of logical arguments and reason. A skill which I used to help bring my Ethics Debate team to the semi-finals in the Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl.

Poker

I have been an avid poker player going on ten years now. My knowledge of the game extends well past the ideas of variance, pot odds and tells. I have a working expertise in the game as I do play more than ten hours of it a week on average.

Public Speaking

As a stage actor for most of my adult life I have utilized many principles of public speaking. I have used my stage presence to excel in class presentations and demonstrations.
