University of California in Davis (Neurobiology, Physio)
CUNY Hunter College (MEd)
I've recently moved to Chicago after living in New York for two years. I just completed the New York City Teaching Fellowship where I taught special education in the South Bronx. I received a Masters of Science in Special Education and Learning Disabilities. I've obtained extensive exposure to alternative methods of teaching and remedial steps to help students close any achievement gaps. In my experience, I've learned how to create creative demonstrations that allow students the opportunity to make learning more hands on rather then memorization. As a teacher, I taught middle school math and high school science. Specifically, I taught environmental science and physics.
As an undergrad, I studied Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. I've taken all pre-requisite courses for medical school including chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, molecular biology, genetics, statistics, physics, and cellular metabolism. Furthermore, as part of my major I took numerous courses in physiology and neurobiology. I have an extensive science background and thus am very passionate about all sciences. In addition to my academic work, I spent time researching at the UC Davis medical center in the Cardio-Thoracic surgery department. Our research was published in 2012 in the Journal for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Outside of my academics, I enjoy an active lifestyle. I love taking runs on the weekends and cooking elaborate meals. Excited about my move to Chicago and looking forward to meeting some great students!! Good Day!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my coursework for Masters of Science in Special Education and Learning Disabilities, I learned extensively about how to modify material to best support students with learning disabilities. Included in both my coursework, training, and experiences, I've learned to modify content in a way that provides necessary structure for ADD/ADHD students. I've learned how to create organization for mapping thought processes and content. I've found that students with these modifications are able to sit for longer and better focus on the task at hand.
As a special needs counselor at Camp Ramah in California, I've worked with several people on the Autism spectrum. Depending on the person, I helped develop manageable goals to help develop their ability to communicate. I've personally developed skills to connect with Autistic people to help develop mutual understanding.
I coached football as a middle school teacher in the South Bronx.
