Centre College (Biology German)
I am currently a lab researcher at the university of Chicago studying protein biochemistry. My degree is in general biology, giving me the experience to tutor in almost any aspect of biology you may need.
I have also studied the German language for 8 years, I was a double major. And have spent five months living in German speaking countries. As an undergrad I received the Leibniz prize for German students demonstrating the most development in four years.
I studied at Centre college in Danville, Kentucky. A small school, but one that continually tops rankings lists for its dedication to its students as well as its rigorous academics.
I can also tutor act prep in general, however my strongest areas are reading and science. I scored quite highly, especially in those areas and believe I can pass that ability on to any students.
Growing up with 3 younger sisters there was no shortage of opportunities to help with homework and offer pointers. I am very patient with students and am very passionate about making sure that my students succeed at their highest level.
I hold myself to a very high standard and to that end I encourage feedback from parents/students so that I may grow and better serve those that need it. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have received my B.S. in biology. I have 3 years of technical biology research experience, including microbiology, plant biology, and molecular biology/biochemistry.
I have taken and passed plant sciences at the college level, as well as ecology (which has a very heavy botany component). I also worked in a plant pathology lab for one year, during which I was responsible for growing healthy plants, and maintaining plant pathogen stocks.
I have taken multiple genetics-related courses. These include: evolutionary genetics, virology(much work was done on the study of viral genomes, microbiology(bacterial genome) and in molecular biology we covered some molecular genetics. I also work in a lab employing genetic techniques on a regular basis.
I've played volleyball for 12 years. I have been an assistant high school volleyball coach. I have been a head middle school volleyball coach. I actively play 3 times a week at a competitive level.
I have coursework in vertebrate morphology, the natural history of vertebrates, ecology, and marine ecology. Those all focused on individual animals either for the entire course or selected sections.
