About David

Have you ever wondered why the Earth has seasons? How to interpret your own EKG? Or Why leaves change colors? That's the nature of science! (Pun intended) We ask questions about patterns we see all around us, come up with possible explanations, and then critically test them. Most importantly, the pursuit of science is about questioning and critical thinking. That's what I love about science and that's what I try to instill in my students.

I graduated from Yeshiva University, Summa Cum Laude and a Dean's List student for 3 years. I have a major in Biology, minor in History, with a heavy background in all sciences and math. My grade point average was a 3.74. I am now a Master's in Secondary Education student at DePaul University. I have spent numerous years working with children and introducing them to the world of science. I have also helped students learn Human Anatomy & Physiology in preparation for careers in Nursing and medicine.

While Science and math can be amazing, rewarding, and even fun, I recognize that ultimately hard work and dedication are the only ways to master the material, or any subject. I will work with you to master your courses, improve your weaknesses, and help you to critically analyze ideas. Let's get to work.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

During my high-school education I successfully completed Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. In my undergraduate education at Yeshiva University I successfully completed courses in Calculus I and II. I have experience with substitute teaching and tutoring of younger students. I enjoy working with people, one-on-one and helping them achieve their goals. As a bonus, I believe that it allows me to hone my skills and become a better tutor and teacher for the future.

American History

I was a History minor at Yeshiva University. I completed, with top scores, courses in American History: Colonial America-1877 and 1877-Present day, Politics & Culture of the 1960's, and American Revolution & Constitution. In addition to this, I have additional background in courses on western civilization.

I enjoy working with students to help them achieve their goals and succeed. I have worked as a substitute teacher for several years and I am currently pursuing my Master's in Secondary Education.

Anatomy

I majored in Biology for my undergraduate education at Yeshiva University and achieved a subject GPA of 3.72. I excelled at Anatomy & Physiology and recently completed these courses in 2011. The human body is an amazing, complex system and very rewarding to learn about. While Anatomy requires a great deal of hard work and memorization, I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it easy to explain to fellow students. Physiology is much more about understanding how the body works instead of memorization and so once one understands the concepts, it's much easier to succeed. I have experience with substitute teaching and tutoring of younger students. I enjoy working with people, one-on-one and helping them achieve their goals. As a bonus, I believe that it allows me to hone my skills and become a better tutor and teacher for the future.

Astronomy

Astronomy is one of my favorite subjects! As Shakespeare once wrote, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." The universe is a pretty crazy place. It's hard to be bored by objects that push the boundary of human comprehension and our very understanding of the laws of physics. I know that I will make you almost as excited about astronomy as I am and help you to understand everything we know about the solar system, eclipses, supernovas, and the history of planetary discovery.

ASVAB

I completed the ASVAB in 2011 before the beginning my military service. I scored a 99 and a GT score of 147. I have taken the ASVAB and know what it tests. I have 4 years in the army and I can tell you what life will be like in certain jobs. I will work with you to succeed and be prepared so you can enter the military with your choice MOS.

Biology

I enjoy working with people, one-on-one and helping them achieve their goals. As a bonus, I believe that it allows me to hone my skills and become a better tutor and teacher for the future.

Ecology

Ecology is an important subject. It allows us to understand the world and how humanity's decisions and actions impact it. I completed a course in Environmental Science in 2014 and scored 98%. I am certain I can teach you about Ecology and help you succeed in your course.

Elementary Math

Elementary math is about understanding basic mathematical concepts, understanding functions, and lots of problem solving. I love trying to solve mathematical puzzles and I'll help you to solve them as well.

During my high-school education I successfully completed Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus. In my undergraduate education at Yeshiva University I successfully completed courses in Calculus I and II, scoring an A each semester. I also recently completed statistics and scored in the high 90's.

I have experience with substitute teaching and tutoring of younger students. I enjoy working with people, one-on-one and helping them achieve their goals. As a bonus, I believe that it allows me to hone my skills and become a better tutor and teacher for the future.

Elementary Science

I enjoy all the sciences and helping students achieve their full potential. I have a firm grasp of all the major sciences and have worked with young students in the past from 1st-8th grade. Science experiments are a great way to teach students about research, the scientific method, and careful note-taking.

Geography

I love to read the newspaper, travel, and read current events. I have a mastery of geography, nationwide and globally. I love to quiz myself and others about locations, capitals, cities, and landmarks. Ultimately, a solid grasp of history and current events requires an underlying knowledge of geography. I am confident I can help you learn geography so that you can excel in your classes.

Reading

I have taught in 1st-2nd grade classrooms, including reading, spelling, writing, and arithmetic.

Study Skills

One of the most important components to succeeding in one's studies is efficiency. Each student learns best in his or her own way. Some people are visual learners; other people prefer writing or audio assistance. Personally, I'm a visual learner so I color code and organize my information accordingly.

Another important criterion for success is being organized. Organization helps one be efficient and spend less time looking for information and more time learning and memorizing information.

I will help you to learn more efficiently and be more productive. I have a 3.72 GPA, Magna Cum Laude, from Yeshiva University, with a major in biology and a minor in history. I am currently pursuing my Master's in Secondary Education from DePaul University. I am diligent, professional, and dedicated to helping you succeed.
