Ball State University (B.F.A. Acting)
I am an actor and writer living in Chicago, looking to help students out with any needs in regards to school work. I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio, where I attended a college preparatory high school in Parma Heights, Ohio. I graduated 10th in my class with a 4.3 GPA and was in the Honors/AP track. For college, I attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana to pursue a B.F.A. in Acting, where I graduated Cum Laude in May 2014. Although my degree is in Acting, my skills go beyond the Fine Arts. (Although, if you do need help with any of that, I'm your girl.) I am proficient in English Composition, Literature (especially Shakespeare), Proofreading, History, etc. at the college level. I can also tutor high school level Math, such as Algebra.
I've been tutoring since middle school, where I volunteered to help first graders learn to read. In high school, I would often proofread my classmates' papers and essays, and offer writing tips. I also organized a study session for AP US History. At the college level, I organized countless group meetings and study sessions, and would often lead them. If any of my classmates or peers had questions, I had no problem working one on one with them. I also have two younger sister, who I helped with their homework so much over the years I should have started charging them. In terms of my tutoring style, I like to consider myself encouraging, yet straight-forward. I like to provide relevant examples in order to make material more understandable, and I have the patience to move slowly, as well as the skill to move at a more quicker pace, depending on the needs of the student. I will encourage and push the student, yet I also know when to back off. I believe that tutoring style should vary from student to student, as no two are alike. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in Acting, which highlights film acting, and I have been in a few short films. I also have a movie review blog. In this blog, I review movies based on content, acting, directing (especially directing styles) and I encourage readers to engage in a discussion about the film, especially if it's one that sparks debate.
I played for 8 years, 2 of them on a competitive traveling team. I also assistant-coached a team of 8 year old girls.
I have a B.F.A. in Acting from Ball State University. I not only have performance experience, but also theatre history, script analysis, Shakespeare, etc. I also participated in a research study about connecting theatre to other professions, working with doctors in order to improve their bedside manner and therefore make patients happier. In terms of teaching, I was an intern for at a summer theatre camp and then assistant director for two years.
