I can help you build confidence, and become an excellent public speaker. Sessions will include exploring different styles of speaking, and developing your personal style. We will also work on developing flexibility as a speaker in order to adapt to different contexts. We will analyze speech content (message), and address physical delivery (enunciation, projection, hand movements, etc). Tips with using visual aids, PowerPoint, sounds systems, hand-outs, etc will also be available.
My first public speaking role came in seventh grade when running for student government, and I am sure the sound of my nervous knees knocking drowned out the message! Since then, I have earned a BA in Communications graduating cum laude that has provided a solid foundation of public speaking ability. That foundation has now been combined with over 14 years of experience of presenting weekly speeches, delivering special guest appearances, leading workshops and teaching seminars. I have delivered speeches to audiences as large as 1,200 and to intimate gatherings. I also have experience of live radio interviews and interview sessions with journalists. After appearing in a three-part documentary airing on commercial television while living in the UK, I spent five years as a professional speaker and motivator responding to invitations from civic groups, colleges and churches.
I try to be flexible with time. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I offer make-up classes.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you become a successful public speaker. I can help you build confidence, and become an excellent public speaker. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BA in Communications cum laude from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL that included a tremendous amount of public speaking training. I have served as an ordained minister for 12 years delivering sermons, workshops, seminars, and teaching sessions, and have had on-going feedback about speaking styles and effectiveness. While living in the UK, I was featured in a three-part documentary entitle 'Priest Idol' on the commercial television station Channel 4, and the success of that program made me a sought after guest speaker and presenter in venues ranging from civic groups, universities, churches and live radio interviews. I have excellent interpersonal skills and effective mentoring abilities.
