If you hire me, you will work with a professional, drawing on over 12 years of experience in management positions and 15 years of experience as a peer and professional tutor. I am a biologist pursuing an MS at NEIU, where I am a TA for all biology courses. I have an extensive background in chemistry (P Chem), math (Differential Equations), and geography (GIS certificate). I have Advanced Tutor Certification through the National Tutoring Association, and won the NEIU Tutor of the Year Award in 2016 for my work in the Learning Support Center. I have at least 1,000 hours of lifetime tutoring experience and I'm very excited about helping people learn!

I have had great success working with students averse to math and science, and helping students with test preparation (e.g., AP, ACT, GED, MCAT). I love to work with creative individuals who want to better themselves and many clients have said I'm a great role model and mentor for young people. I work well and have a lot of experience with adult, college, and high school students.

Finally, public speaking is a large part of my volunteer activities in environmental education; in these venues, I am often speaking off the cuff to a room of adults and children or presenting something I have prepared to a room of practitioners. I have several hundred hours of experience presenting workshops, and working with students in groups or one-on-one to coach for success in biology courses. My focus in Biology is environmental science and I concentrate my free time reading in botany. I have taken undergraduate botany and will be completing a master gardener certification this spring. Further, I have taken undergraduate and graduate level ecology and evolution classes which touch on the more advanced topics in botany, including phylogeny. My chemistry elective in undergrad, Natural Products Chemistry, concentrated on ethnobotany and drug development.

I completed two semesters of organic chemistry including the lab component for the Chemistry minor as part of my undergraduate degree. After undergrad, I applied this knowledge to my work in pollution management, which required applied organic chemistry to assess the fate and transport of pollutants. When I became a TA in grad school, I noticed my biology students had a hard time visualizing molecules and making sense of reaction pathways that were pivotal to success in courses like general biology, biochemistry, physiology, and cellular biology so I started hosting workshops on the basics of organic chemistry. I helped these students develop dynamic study methods which included physical models, problem solving, and integrated reading.

I've excelled in organism-based coursework: genetics, evolution, invertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, and animal behavior to name a few. As a master gardener, I teach youth to use taxonomic keys in the field to identify the animals we encounter on nature walks. I've attended workshops to learn about small mammal and macro-invertebrate identification, and successfully utilized these skills in the field as an ecologist.
