Washington University in St. Louis (Biology - Neuroscien)
Dominican University (Master's)
I started tutoring over 4 years ago and continue to love it for one reason: I love seeing the student I tutor succeed in accomplishing the goals that they set forth for themselves! I graduated magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis with an emphasis of studies in the sciences. I graduated with a degree in Biology - Neuroscience. While at Washington University in St. Louis I took multiple courses in each area of science giving me a vast background and ability to tutor in Biology, Physics or Chemistry. Additionally I was a pre-medicine student and took the MCAT exam, scoring in the 95th percentile. I would love to help you out if you want assistance in preparing for the MCAT as well!
I also have hours of experience tutoring working with multiple different students. This helps me really work towards your specific need! While a college student myself I tutored high school students in Physics, Chemistry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and Biology. I also worked with students in writing college essays and preparing their college application. If you need help in any of these areas I can help you as well!
I am currently working as a Physics teacher at a high school in urban Chicago. This has given me the skills to work with students at all levels. With my students I work hard to push them to their potential, but in a comfortable manner that is built on their own accomplishment and achievement first and foremost. This makes the learning student driven and I find my students themselves pushing themselves to higher limits, not because I require it but because they want it!
I love hearing feedback from the students I work with because I believe the only successful tutoring relationship requires both sides to be transparent about what they need and want from each other. I have a 12 hour cancellation policy but if you are aware of the need to cancel before this I request you let me know. I am flexible with location. I currently prefer to run my tutoring sessions out of a coffee shop in Hyde Park near the University of Chicago or at a coffee shop near the medical district off of Roosevelt Avenue, however I am flexible in finding a location that works for both of us!
I really look forward to working with you soon and helping you achieve your goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to teaching a high school physics class I also teach a course dedicated solely to the ACT Science section. Therefore I have multiple resources and tips at my disposal to use with your son. Finally, I have 3+ years of experience tutoring high school science students in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I look forward to applying all of these skills!
I recently graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biology-Neuroscience. I followed a pre-medicine curriculum and received a score of a 35 on the MCAT. This is in the 96th percentile and 10 points above the national average. I was accepted to multiple medical schools and will be attending the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in the near future.
Additionally, while an undergraduate, I spend two years tutoring students in subjects tested on the MCAT, most notably organic chemistry. I also took a Kaplan MCAT course myself in preparation for the test.
My own experience preparing, studying and taking a prep course, as well as my experience working to prepare my fellow classmates, sets me up well to help you with your own MCAT preparation. I would love to share my array of experiences with you as you pursue the medical field!
I took both Organic Chemistry 1 and Organic Chemistry 2 as an undergraduate student at Washington University in St. Louis. Each of these classes also included a lab portion. In both classes I received an A. Each class lasted one full semester.
Additionally, while at Washington University in St. Louis, I tutored 2-3 students weekly in organic chemistry giving me experience tutoring in the subject as well. I did this over a span of two years.
