I'm in a unique position as a Spanish tutor as I've had the benefit of learning Spanish both inside of the classroom and out since I was a child. Gus, one of my best friends growing up, is a Mexican immigrant. His family became like a second family to me and I spent a lot of time at their house. As Gus's parents began learning English, I began learning Spanish. Because of this, I was able to learn Spanish with native speakers through conversation and a need to communicate.
I also studied the language in school since the sixth grade and developed knowledge of proper grammar and conjugations. I enhanced these studies in high school and received a BA in Hispanic Studies in college. This field focused on culture, literature, and linguistics studies (all of which were conducted in Spanish).
I had the opportunity to study abroad in Chile. While I was there I worked at a restaurant, volunteered at a grade school, attended a Chilean University, and lived with a host family. This allowed to immerse myself even further into the language and culture behind the words.
Since college, I've been able to utilize my Spanish speaking skills in a variety of professional environments. I was a Personal Banker with Wells Fargo, worked in Insurance Account management for State Farm, and most recently worked a Global Immigration law firm. At each of these institutions I was hired for and primarily used my Spanish-speaking skills.
I'm currently a global client manager at a large telecommunications firm, leaving my schedule open to tutoring nights/weekends. Through my work I also have access to great web and video collaboration technologies to use for tutoring remotely if that is desired. Happy to meet in person as well
Send me a note! I'd love to learn about your current skills, your goals, and timelines.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Through my Spanish Language studies and specialty major at college, I've studied grammar, trends, and tenses in Spanish and how much of this crosses over to the English language. I've also assisted in teaching English at an area grade school. Currently I'm work with an adult student to cover grammar, tenses, idiomatic phrases, etc. We focus largely on reviewing common words/phrases that ESL speakers struggle with in order to succeed.
I majored in Political Science in college, covering the topics of Public Policy, International Law, Federal/State/Local/ Constitutional Law, the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and Political Philosophy. I've studied the history, formation, powers, and progression of all of these topics extensively. The main focus of my major was towards the Supreme Court and the Constitution through history. I've written very extensive research papers, taken short-answer, multiple choice, and essay tests, and delivered class presentations in all of these subjects.
I have regularly utilized Spanish speaking skills in a personal, professional, and academic environment over the last 11 years. I began learning through my best friend growing up, who was a Mexican immigrant with his family. I majored in Hispanic studies (encompassing literature, culture, and linguistics) in college. I've also worked a variety of professional jobs in which I've worked with clients entirely in Spanish with great success.
