My tutoring and teaching consist of emphasizing reading strategies such as making inferences, comparing and contrasting, and drawing conclusions. I utilize interdisciplinary lessons to incorporate learning more than one subject at a time; for an example, I integrate short response questions and vocabulary to enhance comprehension and writing skills.

I reinforce brainstorming, organizing, editing, and revising skills to improve students grammar and writing abilities. During a five to six week session, I had many students in a class who were unable to write a five paragraph essay. At the end of the session, 85 percent of the students were

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I facilitate students’ learning in resume writing, job search, and interviewing techniques. I apply Problem base and Inquiry Guided Learning to engage students in career exploration. I teach and assess students on Illinois’ Sixteen Career Clusters. Students utilize the results from the career assessment to research three careers of their choice. For each of their career choice, they explore education requirements, amount of work hours and work environment, compensation, and the stability of the careers. I receive positive feedback from the students regarding the project.
