I come from a family of teachers (my parents teach music and math, respectively, and my older sister is a third-grade teacher), and as the middle child of five I quickly learned strategies for effective communication. I received a BA in Russian and Linguistics from the University of New Hampshire and subsequently studied in Moscow through federal grants. I have defended my candidacy for an MFA in Fiction at the University of New Hampshire as well. A cumulative result is extensive experience in communicating ideas strategically, independently, and creatively--experience that I can use for you.
I have almost ten years of private tutoring experience, particularly in research and composition. I have worked with students as young as the third grade and as experienced as second graduate degree candidates. I have taught in the undergraduate classroom as a TA of linguistics, composition, and creative fiction workshops. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to my personal experiences conceiving, designing, and delivering award-winning presentations, I have received special training through the University of New Hampshire's Oral Communications Lab to instruct public presentation. As a team member of that pilot program, I helped to implement the program for students. I have experience in helping students in all aspects of public speaking: brainstorming, researching content, speech writing, presentation development, and rehearsal for delivery.
I hold an MFA in Fiction from the University of New Hampshire, and have close to ten years of experience in tutoring composition studies. As an academic tutor, I have conducted one-on-one sessions with students up to the PhD-level to discuss edits and revisions to their work. I have additional experience as the fiction editor for the literary journal, Barnstorm.
