About Eleanor

Hello students and families!

I am a professional tutor with one of the nation's leading test prep and academic tutoring companies and am now seeking to work independently with a wider range of students. With over 8 years of teaching and tutoring experience, including over 1000 hours of SAT & ACT tutoring, one-on-one support is not only my expertise but my passion. I have worked with middle school, high school, and college students, and I know how provide holistic support to help students develop life management skills alongside their academic goals. Apart from test prep, I specialize in tutoring all types of writing--including college admissions essays, AP Lang, AP Lit, and college-level writing--as well as elementary and high school math through precalculus.

My teaching begins with my students' strengths. I seek to reference things my students already know to build connections to what they don't know. I believe in my students' potential and help them develop the growth mindset they need to reach their goals. My students know I really care about them, and this allows them to get more out of our work together.

In order to make the experience as efficient as possible for my families, I specialize in online tutoring. The online platform maximizes scheduling possibilities and eases the stress of either commuting to a tutoring location or having a guest at one's home. It also makes available a vast array of resources that can be brought up instantaneously based on a student's individual needs, and I have the experience to know how to use these resources effectively.

I attended Oberlin College, where I majored in English and also studied politics, writing pedagogy, creative nonfiction, dance, environmental science, and languages. This rich liberal arts background allows me to connect with students across a variety of interests and help them develop their own academic enthusiasm. Before Oberlin, I attended Whitney Young High School in Chicago, where I finished with scores of 5 in seven AP courses and scored 700/800/800 scores on the math/verbal/writing sections my first time taking the SAT.

Whether you're a college student getting stuck on papers and reading assignments, a high school student preparing for tests and college applications, or a parent whose elementary child needs support for any aspect of their academic experience, I can help.

My past positions include:
-ACT Prep teacher at Chicago Vocational Career Academy in Chicago
-Teaching Associate with Citizen Schools in Chicago, tutoring 6-8th grade students in all subjects and working extensively with special ed students
-Lead 6th Grade Academic Coach with the A PLUS Youth Program in Seattle, tutoring 6-8th grade students in all subjects
-Writing Associate at Oberlin College, tutoring students of all majors and years and serving as a TA for freshman English courses

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
