I received my undergraduate degree in Spanish. After graduating I moved to Sevilla, Spain where I became certified to teach ESL to adults and received my CELTA certification (TESL certification done through Cambridge University). After completing my CELTA I continued to live in Spain where I taught English in both elementary and high schools for two years. While teaching in schools, I also was a private tutor to children, teens, and adults.
After spending two years in the north of Spain (La Rioja), I moved to Madrid where I received my Masters degree in Bilingual and Multicultural education. I spent one year doing my student teaching in an elementary school and continued to privately tutor. I will be in Spain the following year, but will be back in Naperville for one month during July/August. I have extensively studied Spanish and can tutor grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing. I have also extensively studied English and can tutor grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing. I also have experience preparing students for the Cambridge English exams (level testing of English known and accepted worldwide).
I enjoy using games in my classes and researched and wrote my thesis for my Masters on using games in the classroom. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
