About Julia

My name is Julia S. and I just graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a triple major in French, English Literature, and Creative Writing. I am currently a marketing intern at the Alliance Française de Chicago. At my internship, I use my French and writing skills on a daily basis.

I am very passionate about the French language. My reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills have greatly improved from my semester abroad in France in the spring of 2014. I tutored introductory French college students at my university for two years and I also tutored one high school student in the summer of 2016. I was a teaching assistant in an introductory French class for two years at my university. I have several materials from past courses that I have used, along with books and online materials. I also have access to the French library at the Alliance Française, which has many learning materials, including audio materials. I would first focus on the basics of grammar and verb tenses, and then hopefully move on to some beginner French literature, such as Le Petit Prince.

As a writing tutor at my university for one year, I learned how to talk to students about their writing in a productive way while being friendly and helpful. I am confident in my ability to ask important questions about academic writing and creative writing through my experience with writing workshops and one-on-one tutoring sessions. I went into an introductory English course every two weeks to aid students in brainstorming their essay topics and workshop their drafts. I also presented at a Writing Center conference about the benefits of collaborative tutoring.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
