In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I got my love of baseball from my father, who was an outstanding pitcher and hitter on the local sandlot teams. I have spent many hours watching baseball on television and watching live games too. I played baseball at Brookport High School for three years, and was a starter each year. I started 2nd base as a sophomore, 3rd base as a junior and right field as a senior. I know how to bunt, slide, steal bases, etc. I know the strike zone. I can watch the 3rd base coach and steal their signs. I know when the pitcher balks. In short, I know baseball.
I have played basketball in some form or another since the seventh grade. I played elementary basketball, freshmen high school basketball, intramural basketball in college, and played in the Navy on the Ship's basketball team.I am quite good even at my age of 58. I understand the rules. I can also referee games. I know the difference between college and pro rules. I know each position and how it should be played. I know basketball.
