About Anne

Hello!

My name is Anne, and I'm a super tutor!

Why? Well, there's a couple of reasons:

First, I really care. I want you (or your child) to learn! I'm not happy until you leave a tutoring session with me feeling confident in your knowledge of a subject.

Second, I don't give up easily. If one way of explaining something doesn't work, I'll try a second. And a third, and a fourth, and a fifth. I will try as many different methods as it takes for something to "click".

Third, I won't talk over your head. I've worked with students of all ages, but I spent more time working with first through third graders than with anyone else. What I learned from them is that to be a good tutor, you've got to put yourself in the student's shoes. I start with what you know, and I build up on your knowledge from there. This makes for effective, positive tutoring sessions that leave the student with a desire to learn more instead of a dread of the subject.

Lastly, I have an infectious love of knowledge. I really love learning things myself and sharing the things I know with others. You can call me a nerd. You can call me a geek. But whatever you call me, you'll see my exuberance about learning rub off on you. I can't promise that I'll make you brilliant, but I CAN promise that when you leave a tutoring session with me, you will have laughed a little, and you will truly be at least a little more interested in what you're studying.

Can't wait to hear from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was employed by the Neighborhood Schools Program at the University of Chicago for 3 years. During this time, I worked as a teacher's assistant to a first grade teacher for 1 year and to a kindergarten teacher for 2 years. I would assist the teachers by tutoring the students one-on-one or in small groups. I would also sometimes help her prepare and present lessons.

Logic

My college degree in Philosophy required I take Elementary Logic, which I did and got an A in. I also later took Intermediate Logic, just because I had enjoyed logic so much!

Dependable, Flexible, Accommodating, Effective! — I scrambled to find an ECON tutor for my daughter, a high school junior. When I first found Anne Q. and we started corresponding, I got a good feeling that things were going to work out. To make a long story short, Anne Q., with her effective communication skills, soft demeanor, and motivation to see immediate results, encouraged my daughter to "find a second wind" if you will. Thus, she is in th ...
