About Breeze

Hello! Bonjour!

My name is Breeze, and I would love to be your French tutor! As someone that grew up bilingually, and who has lived in France for five years, I'd like to think that I'm pretty qualified. I've tutored many levels, ranging from beginners to college French majors to graduate students. I'd like to believe that I have an eye for detail-- I think that's what really makes a good language speaker. In order to obtain master language skills one must submerse themselves in the language completely. Want me to be your tutor? I'll share my secrets with you! A session with me is never boring because it's a subject I'm so passionate about. Some people think that to acquire a second, third, or fourth language, you have to have some kind of crazy ability, but I don't think that's true. What got me through the rough spots of passing from beginner to intermediate to advanced to fluent to native in two foreign languages? Determination. I wanted it so bad, so I went and got it.

Now, I'll bet you'd like to know more about my experience as a tutor? During high school, I was the first SILC (Teacher's Assistant) to assist a French teacher in an AP course, two years in a row. During the summers, I would tutor groups of children for a few hours everyday, almost like a French babysitting day camp in the mornings, in which they'd learn new things and even go on field trips! I do sessions of usually one, two, or three hours. Most students pick two hours. I've assisted on end of the year assignments, and I've even helped out a grad student or two! Well, throughout high school and even when I was in France, I would get tons of English speakers coming my way asking for French help for one reason or another. Because of this, I developed several curriculums catered to each audience, each with a different duration depending on the subject, the material amount, and the speed at which the pupil learns. Some examples of my target curriculums are: "Youth in Paris" in which colloquial French is taught, slang, fun culture, and this happens to be the most popular out of all the packages I'd offer because it covers everything one would need to know from what's hot on tv, in the magazines, on the radio, and of course, what the young crowd talks about; "International Business", which is usually a course that my adult students take, covering all types of vocabulary, expressions, and situations that you'd find yourself in during an office meeting or seminar. This course, of course, is very professional, so this is known as the very "tedious" course, seeing as French, when spoken properly and in the professional environment is spoken very differently. Other popular courses are my "A Traveler in Paris", "Frenchy Fashion", and "French from A-Z"... These are pretty self explanatory ! The French from A-Z is for the learner that really desires to grasp the language at each and every angle in order to achieve fluency. This course has homework, reading assignments, multimedia learning aids (like fun stuff to watch and listen to !!) and recommended texts to aid. Like any other tutor, I also can focus on whatever the student is learning in class. :)

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

French

I speak fluent French at a Native level (according to basically every teacher or authority figure I've come across during my academic and professional career in France) and lived in France for a long time. I have been tutoring all levels of French from beginner to the highly advanced for the past three or four years. In high school, I was a SILC twice for AP French. My teaching methods cater to the student depending on his or her learning methods... but most importantly, I always make it fun!
