Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

In addition to 20 years experience teaching History, I have a profound interest and appreciation of the subject. This has translated into an unique insight in the subject. I have the ability to explain not only the "what", but the
"why" of events that have shaped our world!

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over 20 years experience in elementary education in the Chicago Public Schools. In addition to State of Illinois certification, I am additionally endorsed by the state in Math, Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies.
My years in the classroom have given me a keen insight into the problems most frequently associated with students with under-developed academic performance.

Phonics

As a teacher I have taught Reading for over 20 years, I have consistently employed Phonics strategies as a part of the key basics in developing a successful reader. My methods have proven to be successful with family members and countless students through my logical approach to Phonics.

Reading

I have taught Reading successfully for over 20 years. My techniques employ various proven strategies from phonics to comprehension skills. Let me demonstrate my ability that can make Reading fun and transform a student into a more confident scholar!

Study Skills

It's not what you do, but how you do it! Sound familiar? Well, it's true. The time spent studying does not necessarily translate into time well-spent! Organization and coordinated study methods are the keys to a successful learner.
With over 20 years of experience as a teacher in Reading and Math, I can share the strategies that will enhance the learning experience and eliminate non-productive effort.

Writing

Successful writing techniques are often viewed as tedious and unattainable. That doesn't need to be. Proven and systematic strategies can encourage a student with individualized methods that will improve this vital skill. I have the ability and experience to transform the struggling and frustrated writer into a fluid wordsmith!
