About Donna

Donna has tutored with an organization participating in the no child left behind initiative. As a mother of three and a grandmother of two, she has had plenty of personal experience assisting her family in their school work. After raising her family, she returned to school to gain computer skills, earning an Associate degree in Web Design at Northwestern College.

She enjoyed the educational process so much, she continued her schooling at Columbia College Chicago until she received her Masters from University of Illinois, Chicago campus. She took several education courses with a focus on High School English in addition to her Master's requirements; finishing with a 3.7 average. She has an enthusiasm for school she wants to share, as well as her accumulated knowledge.

She is graced with an abundance of patience because she remembers what it is like not to understand the material offered. Donna is an award winning poet and will encourage the student/s to develop their creativity as well as disciplining their minds while they master the necessary work.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I completed an MA in Creative Writing but I started my education with an Associates at a business school. One of the requirements was Public Speaking. I will never forget my "How to do something assignment" I kept it simple and did the steps to make "Ants on a Log," which is celery stuffed with peanut butter and raisins scattered along the peanut butter. It was a tasty hit!

I have had experience reading poetry on stage at open mikes starting in 1996. I have continued to read poetry at venues around town, including being a featured author at Printer's Row Book Fair many years and one year participating on two different stages. I facilitate a writing workshop, and currently teach three students on SKYPE with an online camera. I also have been interviewing people on the telephone for a company contracted by government agencies.
