Hello! I'm Audrey. I've recently moved back to Chicago. In May, I earned my MA in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Before that I taught English in Japan for more than 6 years. While I was in Japan, I taught children and adults of all levels. I have taught in classrooms, small groups, and private lessons. After the earthquake, I had opportunities to work with children from Fukushima in an after-school program.
As your teacher, I can create lesson plans from books you choose, or I can provide lessons using material from my shelves. I've helped students prepare for exams, improve their business English, and feel confident in daily conversation. We will work at your pace; feel free to make requests at any time! Hello! I'm Audrey. Audrey has helped my exchange-student son prepare for the TOEFL test. He says he learns so much every lesson and it has been extremely helpful for him.
She is a good teacher, she is very punctual and never late. When I met problems I would communicate with her by email and she always replied me on time. In class, she is very patient and friendly to solve my questions. In a word, she is a excellent teacher.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I majored in English, earned my MA in English Education, and taught English for more than 10 years. I am currently certified to teach in both New York and Illinois.
I taught English in Japan for 6 years. My students were from all levels and age groups. I taught business English and casual conversation. I participated in a selective advanced teacher training program for 6 months.
If you are my student, we will work at your pace. In my experience, English only lessons with a textbook, followed by homework, are most effective. I like to work closely with students to make my lessons match their learning styles. Let's use your interests as we practice English.
I lived in Japan for 6 and a half years. I minored in Japanese and have passed level N3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I am happy to help any beginners improve their Japanese. I also have experience teaching Japanese children English.
As an English major in college, my classmates asked me to proofread their papers. After college, I often checked the work of our Polish administrative assistant, who was writing in her second language. Later, when I worked at a junior and senior high, one of my responsibilities was to check the writing from students of all grades and classes.
I judged three 8th grade speech contests and a city-wide high school speech contest. I prepared my school's participants in a national speech contest; several students received awards and my school received an Outstanding School award in 2009.
For three years, I taught 7th grade English. I experimented with different ways to teach vocabulary. Based on my experience and training, I developed games and activities to help my students learn, remember, and use new words. I also encouraged my students to use a vocabulary notebook.
Here are a few samples of what my students wrote on their teacher evaluations:
"I think everything sticks into my head because the vocabulary and the grammar are so fun to learn and it makes me want to learn more."
"I got better at studying vocabulary."
"I thout [sic] the games (voca-bee) were good, and helped me to learn vocabulary."
These methods can easily be adjusted for age and level.
