My name is Stephanie, and I'm an ESL instructor with a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.
I've traveled around the world--from Poland to Peru--and taught English both in the U.S. and in China. I have experience teaching children, teenagers, and adults at all levels of English proficiency.
I will personalize lessons based on what YOU would like to learn or improve, whether that is listening, speaking, reading or writing. I can help you improve your pronunciation and build the vocabulary that's important for your field of work or study.
As a University of Chicago and UIC graduate, I have experience in writing and editing research papers, resumes, application essays and cover letters. I can offer guidance in writing for an academic audience.
My own experience as a language student has helped shape my work as a teacher. I know how frustrating learning a new language can be, but also how exciting it is to learn something unexpected about a different culture. As a lifelong Chicagoan, I would also be happy to incorporate local culture into our lessons.
I look forward to hearing from you! My name is Stephanie, and I'm an ESL instructor with a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.

I am happy to tutor pairs or groups of three at a $60/hour rate.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BA in Art History from the University of Chicago, where I specialized in 20th century architectural history and theory. I have a particular interest in Chicago's architectural history, and have spent time volunteering at the Chicago Architecture Foundation.
I am TESOL-certified and have taught English as a Second Language to students of all age groups and levels. I use a variety of teaching techniques according to my students' age, skill level, needs and personal preferences.
As a certified ESL instructor and student of foreign languages, I have a solid grasp of both the workings of the English language and how it differs from other modern languages.
I have a working knowledge of Polish, Russian, Chinese and Spanish grammar. If you are a native speaker of one of these languages, I will happily incorporate comparative material into our lessons.
I have a Master's degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Chicago. My main geographical area of study was Poland, and I focused on Polish language, literature, and culture. While I was a graduate student, I studied in Poland at the C1 CEFR level (high-advanced) and taught first- and second-year Polish classes.
My undergraduate and graduate education at the renowned University of Chicago has trained me to write a variety of academic prose--from well-crafted research papers to intriguing resumes.
I will work with you to improve your writing--whether you would like to make an important college application essay just right, to make your resume stand out from the crowd, or to learn how to research papers with ease.
