I graduated from DePauw University in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in Psychology. Throughout college I was a nanny for a family of two, during which time I worked with the children on summer packet lessons, and homework during the academic year. I moved up to Chicago in November 2010 and began working in sales. After a few months in the sales and marketing industry, I found that my true passion lies within teaching. At that point, I then became a Special Education Classroom Assistant for a Primary Autism classroom (1st grade-3rd grade) at a Chicago Public School on the Northside. I loved every minute I spent working with the children in my classroom. In addition, I also taught after school classes to the primary grade students. During the second half of the academic year, the Principal at my school approached me and asked if I would transition into a new position and become the Resource Coordinator for the school. During that time, I worked with Chicago Public Schools, but was employed by an outside non-profit agency. I worked for the Community School Initiative grant. My duties consisted of planning events, creating academic programs for students that took place outside of the regular school hours, running out of school programming, writing grants, attending meetings, etc. After a few months of working as a Resource Coordinator, I was then presented with a new opportunity within my agency. As of July 1st, I transitioned into the role as Parent Educator. Through this role I work with mothers, fathers, and expectant mothers on caring for children, the stages of development, and age appropriate activities for children of various ages. I absolutely love working with children, whether it be in a classroom/group setting, or one-on-one. I come for a long line of educators (Mother - High School English Teacher, Brother - High School English Teacher (working towards PhD to be a Professor) and Sister - Reading and Literacy Specialist/Coach). Teaching and servicing the needs of children is a true passion of mine, and needless to say, has a genetic manifestation. I am in the process of seeking out Graduate School opportunities so I can become a certified and licensed Elementary Education Teacher, focusing specifically in the area of Special Education (more specifically, Autism).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was the Resource Coordinator for an Elementary school on the Northside, where I coordinated before school and after school programming. In doing so, I was also the head instructor for the 1st grade after school program. I developed lessons and worked with students on many different levels to help build their math, science, reading, and writing skills. I have also worked one on one with several primary aged students to help build skills in all areas of academia.
During my college years I was a nanny to a family of two younger boys, and during that time I worked with them on outside workbooks given to them by their schools. The main area on which focused was phonics. I helped them to learn words by breaking them down phonetically -- emphasizing special sounds (sh, ch, bl, th, etc.) I taught them how to break apart words and sound them out phonetically in order to build the entire word together.
