I am a certified elementary teacher with four years of experience as an elementary school teacher (3 years of middle school Language Arts and Reading and one year of all subjects) as well as seven years as a substitute teacher, three years as a reading tutor for small groups and one year as a math tutor for small groups (Title I grades Kindergarten through Eighth), and three years of individual tutoring in all elementary subjects. Each of these experiences has given me insights, strategies, and exposure to a wide variety of curricula and approaches.
My greatest joy is when my students grasp a concept and start making connections and growing as learners. Different learners learn differently so I tailor my tutoring to their learning styles, strengths, and challenges. I make learning fun for my students, injecting humor, focusing on their interests, and helping them experience the joy of success!
As a mother of two sons, who are now in college, I bring a nurturing approach to my tutoring of younger students and practical life experience to my tutoring of older students.
As a student, I struggled with math until I learned how to teach it. There are many ways to solve a math problem and I really enjoy finding strategies that work best for my students. I am currently receiving training in EveryDay Mathematics. My two daughters enjoy their time with Edith. My younger daughter gets excited every Saturday morning and looks forward to her session with her. The reading materials are interesting and helpful for her grade/age. (4th grade) She is always punctual and prepares materials for girls. I especially appreciate her summary of each session with girls. I even recently switched my older daughter from a private tutoring company to her! I highly recommend her to anyone!
I have nothing but the highest praise for Edith! She is kind, patient and encouraging with my son. I have seen great improvement in his reading skills along with an increase in his confidence.
Tonight was our initial meeting. Edith is a pleasure to work with. She took her time and worked with my Son to get a good idea of where he stands with reading and comprehension along with spelling. Looking forward to our next meeting.
Ms. Edith is a wonderful teacher. My son liked her a lot and learned a lot. I can send him to school this year with out any concerns.
Edith is a patient and professional tutor. She had made a subject that's far from my daughters favorite a much easier review than I could of hoped. We look forward to her help for a long time to come.
Edith is very good at what she does. I recommend her to anyone that needs one on one tutoring. She takes her time to make sure you get it before she moves on. I really needed someone to teach me at my pace. She's the best!!
Edith is a perfect fit for our 7 year old son. Our son is always happy to see her and looks forward to working with her. He enjoys the reading games she plays with him because he says, "It's not more homework, its fun!" She has a very down-to-earth, patient and caring tutoring style. Edith isn't afraid to sit on the floor and truly aims to make her students comfortable.
We hired Edith to help our son with his phonics skills, reading fluency and comprehension but most importantly his confidence. We highly recommend Edith because her experience and love for reading is sure helping our son!
Edith is an excellent teacher, very patient and calm. My daughter loved her. She really knows how to relate to kids.
I love working with Edith! She is well-skilled as a teacher, has a warm and encouraging manner, and clearly loves her work. Edith explaining helpful strategies to use when taking the Nova Terra test. She reviewed concepts first and then went through multiple sample questions from the actual Terra Nova test and, one by one, helped my daughter to understand each question. I will definitely recommend Edith to my friends and family. She really boosted my confidence and joy to work with and I would definitely recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
