My teaching career began in 2005, upon my completion of my Master's in Elementary Education Degree from DePaul University. My teaching experience ranges from First Grade through Eighth Grade. I have taught in classrooms of students with various learning levels, and have had to adapt my lessons to both students that have tested gifted, to to students that have test several grade levels below.
I am passionate about education, believe all students can be successful, and that every learner is unique. I chose to become a teacher at the elementary level as a result of my own experience in school. I was a poor test taker, lacking the proper study skills for my style of learning. It wasn't until I worked with a tutor myself in high school, where I learned how to study. My way of learning was unique, and required individual attention to help me figure out how to succeed in school. As a result, I graduated college with a 3.8 GPA and a 4.0 in Graduate School.
Although my full-time teaching career is on hold to be a stay-at-home mom and care for my family, I'd love to bring my experience in the classroom to help your child find his/her best style of learning in order to become a more confident and successful learner. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught at the elementary level since 2005. My experience has been with 1st grade; 4th grade; and 6th grade. All grade levels were different from one another, but all enjoyable to teach. The subjects I taught were Reading/Language Arts; Math; Science; and Social Studies. My classroom has always included a variety of teaching strategies, catering to students with multiple intelligences (Musical; Linguistic; Bodily/Kinesthetic; Spatial; Logical/Mathematical; Interpersonal; and Intrapersonal). Students are more likely to retain knowledge when they are able to make a personal connection.
I believe in staying active with daily exercise, as well as movement throughout the for overall better health. I've been an avid runner for nearly 20 years, and have completed 2 marathons, and 3 half marathons. Fitness is a hobby of mine that has turned into a future career goal. I'm currently working on a certification to become an Ace Group Fitness Instructor.
