I am Tina and currently a freshman at the Illinois Institute of Technology. My major is electrical engineering. I am fluent in English and Vietnamese (read/write/speak). In the past, I have worked with many different type of students ranging from preschool to high school; hence I have many experiences with tutoring.
I have worked at the North America Kumon Inc for a year during high school. At the North America Kumon Inc, I tutored kids with their Math and Reading. Mathematics range from simple counting to Calculus. Readings range from simple alphabet to literature (Shakespeare especially). Kumon helps students to expand their capabilities in English and Math (especially learning the material before hand); therefore, most students who attend Kumon tend to excel in their regular school courses compare to other students. I, myself, have completed the Kumon reading program and took high Math level; thus, I believe that I am capable of tutoring students with their general school courses (preschool to high school) without any problem.
Kumon is not the only place where I got my tutoring experiences from. I also received my tutoring skills from the National Honor Society and Math Team. As a member for both organizations, I constantly tutor and teach other students with whatever they need help with. I tutored every other week for the National Honor Society and almost everyday for Math Team. In Math Team, I do not only tutor the team members; but, I also teach workshops for the Junior Varsity. This performance went on for about 2 years for both organization. Hence, I feel very confident when it comes to tutoring. I have dealt with many students' different personalities before; thus, my tolerance level is very durable.
All the reasons and experiences above make me believe that I am a good candidate as a tutor. I preferred numbers over words; however, other topics/subjects would not be a problem. I will try my best in explaining all explaining and answers all the problems and questions that the students have. I am Tina and currently a freshman at the Illinois Institute of Technology. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
