Since the first class with Marcia I saw her ability to adapt to my needs. Teaching English can be easy, but engage with the student and bring the interest to the learning process is much more difficult. Marcia does it. She uses different tools to teach and she puts the language in different contexts to challenge you. She came up with different ideas in order you pick out the ones that fit better to your process. Marcia anticipates your needs evaluating at each moment a way to improve her class. She is friendly, respectful and very efficient. Maria is more than a teacher, she is an English coach and she will go with you to get through your English problems for a great success!
Marcia is definitely a great, well prepared, and interesting teacher. My mother was visiting Me in Chicago from Europe and, in order to keep her occupied during the day and to improve her English, I have decided to hire Marcia. I couldn't be happier! Marcia has been extremely available since the very beginning, providing me with a detailed daily schedule. What I (and of course, my mom) especially loved has been Marcia's structure of the classes: not only a in-depth grammar review (which may be boring), but also a guided tour of the city of Chicago and it's amazing attractions. Marcia has a great knowledge of the city, and she brought my mom to a large amount of places, museums, and parks. Doing so, the English lesson can be focused on the actual day activity (vocabulary), and at the same time it is possible to see the city, learn about its history, visiting museums, and...have a lot of fun! Further, I'd also like to say that Marcia is an amazing and interesting person, with a great personality that won't disappoint you. I highly and without reserve whatsoever recommend Marcia: you will have a great teacher, and and amazing tour guide.
Marcia is very patient and extremely conscientious in providing material and explaining vocabulary to me during the session.
Especially, I am satisfied that she uses mic and recoder so i can listen back my pronunciation which I never don't it before.
She knows not only how to teach but also how to encourage and communicate with anybody.
I really appreciates Marcia’s background in art history and art knowledge. She introduced me many artist so we can go to gallery together and talk about art. It was really nice experience beside studying.
I'm very enjoying meeting with her not only for studying also as a friend and as an artist !.
I came to the United States eight years ago and I’ve always been confident with my English skill at a conversational level. It wasn’t until I started my current position as an art curator that I realized that I needed to advance my English to a professional level. Around three months ago, I had my first English class with Marcia and our class took place at her beautiful apartment by the lakeshore. Her cheerful attitude and the cup of warm tea immediately made me feel at home, and I felt a strong connection with her. Marcia is energetic, considerate and generous with her time. She has showed great determination and resourcefulness in her efforts to encourage the learning of English. Her preparation is always extensive and she uses tools like recorders and projectors as an aid to effectively help me with my pronunciation and improve my public speaking skill. I believe in her ability in teaching English at any level.
What makes Marcia so compelling a teacher is her compassion and especially her willingness to entertain any idea without dismissing it. Thanks to Marcia’s background in art history and her incredibly rich knowledge and understanding in Western art in general, she is able to give me valuable advice not only as an ESL teacher, but equally important, as an artist and a wise friend.
Marcia has tutored students from all over the world, and she really knows how to help students improve their English. What I like most is that she acquainted me with the history and geography of Chicago through a series of outing classes. We have visited Magnificent Mile, Chicago History Museum, and Field Museum. At the beginning of every class, she briefly introduced some background information and important vocabulary about today's tour, and give me the exquisite class material she prepared. Through these outing classes, I practiced my listening, question-asking, and conversation skills on real-world interesting topics and materials. I really recommend everyone to take her class.
Marcia is an excellent ESL tutor. She is very patient with my 6th grade daughter. My daughter was adopted as an older child and her first language is Chinese. Marcia brings fun but challenging lessons that are geared towards my daughter’s interests for each session. She tries to make reading fun so my daughter learns to love reading. Marcia is a very knowledgeable ESL tutor.
I am a ESL student. Marcia is a great teacher. Every time she was well prepared for our lesson and brought lots of interesting stories. We even had one of our lessons at Chicago History Museum. She took me in as her guest. From the back and forth discussion I learned a lot. Thank you Marcia.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

My public speaking career started in high school. I participated in a rigorous debate program, and I was awarded with the "Best Woman Debater" award in the city of Spokane, Washington. Subsequently, I majored in Communications from Washington State University, which included speaking training. As an English as Second Language instructor, I have devised many activities that involve speaking or presenting in front of a class. In addition, I assisted a student from Spain with formal Powerpoint presentations.
Since I have successfully completed two masters degrees, I'm familiar with the rigors of passing exams. I've tutored students in national exams. I work to make the studies meaningful and interesting by creating such exercises as Jeopardy quizzes, crossword puzzles, and study guides to help students successfully pass the exams.
