I am in my 6th full year of teaching, but I have been in and out of the classroom for the past 8 years. I taught 2 years of history after I graduated with my BA in History Education. I finished my master's in special education in December of 2012 and currently am teaching special education in a charter school in Chicago.
I have worked with all students, including the general education population, children with Autism (I was an ABA Therapist for 2 years), behavioral problems, emotional disorders, learning disabilities, multi-needs and ADHD.
I have great ideas to make lessons fun and to help you out with study skills, test-taking skills and even help with behavior modification. I specialize in history/social studies, but I have taught science, math and English too. Being a special education teacher, I can help you or your child with ways to make learning easier and fun. Overall the time that I got to spend with Krista for tutoring was great! She helped me with answering my study guides in depth. With my current schedule, she was very understanding on why I could not answer questions for my study guides. Basically, Krista is very enthusiastic about tutoring students in history, she is very patient, and she knows how to really explain history whereas some people are very dry with teaching history. I would recommend Krista to anyone, you won't regret it!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I finished my master's in special education in December 2012 and I have been working with kids with ADD/ADHD in the classroom as a teacher for the past five years. I work with them on behavior modification in which I teach them different ways to cope with their disability and teach them different ways to handle themselves in a more appropriate manner. These ways include, re-directing or allowing them to work on a task that they enjoy until they calm themselves (i.e. drawing or writing). I also work with them on their study skills. I teach them different ways to organize their school work. I also teach them different ways to study, including flash cards, mnemonic devices and graphic organizers. I have worked as a special education teacher for the past 4 years.

I have worked as a special education teacher for the past 4 years.
I student taught in an elementary school this past semester, spending 9 weeks there. I taught both kindergarten and fourth grade. While I am working on my masters in special education, I have had the opportunity to obtain my ESL (English as a Second Language) certification. I am currently finishing this certification and have 2 classes to go until I am certified in December. My third year of teaching I had the opportunity to work one on one with a student who was in the ESL program in his English classroom, in which I was the special education teacher. I taught him new study skills to help him learn the language better. For the past year, I have had the opportunity to work in an ESL classroom to obtain 100 hours of observation as required by the state of Illinois. I was able to work with students and help them with their school work.
I played soccer for 7 years competitively, playing numerous positions, including goalie, defense (both wings) and center for both co-ed and girls only soccer teams. I was the coach for the freshman girls soccer team at a school I taught at in which our record was 14-2-2. I have taught many different skills that my players have used.

I have been a teacher for 3 years and I am getting my masters in special education. I have taken classes on how to teach study skills. I can teach them different ways to help them with any studying and/or test taking anxiety that they have. I am also great with being able to motivate them and help them new tricks that they can use in different subjects.
