About Michael

I have spent the last six months teaching ESL abroad at Berlitz Language Center. The center provided me with training and the tools needed to be a successful instructor. My responsibilities included planning my own lessons, writing monthly progress reports for the students, and giving feedback on quizzes, homework, and writing practice. I have taught a wide range of age groups and levels from beginner to advanced. I also have taught specialized classes including pronunciation, negotiations, social situations, and business.

I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in English and a minor in Professional Writing. Personally, I am very passionate about teaching English as a Second Language. I believe that the best way to teach English is by strictly speaking in the target language during the lesson. I bring a very positive energy into every class. My students are always very motivated by my attitude, which helps them gain confidence in learning the language. I encourage students to always try their hardest and to always continue learning. My hobbies include reading and writing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have been an English teacher in the public school setting for the last three years. I am certified in English Education in the state of Illinois. I have a master's degree in Teaching, and years of experience in the subjects.

ESL/ESOL

I am currently an ESL Teacher. I have been one for over a year and a half. I enjoy tutoring ESL, and do very well teaching grammar, pronunciation, and conversation.
