About Joshua

Thank you for visiting my tutoring profile.

I have successfully tutored many different students, of many different backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities, in major cities across the United States, and globally, for over four years. My professional background is in electrical engineering and nonprofit management. I previously taught math and science subjects to 6th, 8th, and 10th grade equivalent students in India.

Tutoring is in my blood. Throughout my career I have been heavily involved in training my colleagues in formal and informal settings, teaching and mentoring youth, and tutoring youth and adults in many different subjects. With a breadth of tutoring and education experience, I am confident that I can help you or your child understand the material, reinforce important skills, overcome learning challenges, and succeed in your course or test.

I place a lot of emphasis in my tutoring sessions in understanding my students - I strive to understand the challenges unique to each student and provide personal attention to my students' learning strengths. In this way, I have helped many students that were previously discouraged in their courses, to dramatically improve.

Most of my students are in math and science-related subjects. However, I have also helped students with writing projects, computer skills (including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), time management and organization, and test taking techniques. During my graduate studies I worked as a teaching assistant for graduate-level students - grading, revising, and critiquing Master's level papers for their content, style, and the strength of their argument. If you are looking for help writing a quality "A" paper - I would be more than happy to help.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Access

I have designed complicated Access databases in a nonprofit setting. My design knowledge includes how to build tables, queries, forms, and reports, and how to program "behind-the-scenes" in Visual Basic.

Religion

I recently completed a Master of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary - including Christian theological and religious education. I have a background in both my graduate and undergraduate studies in studying and discussing World Religions. I have also taught various lessons on the Bible, Christianity, and Christian history - in the church and as a teacher at an orphanage in India.

Visual Basic

I have designed complicated Access databases in a nonprofit setting. My design knowledge includes how to build tables, queries, forms, and reports, and how to program "behind-the-scenes" in Visual Basic.
