About Judy

Hello Prospective students!
I believe students have the most useful information within them -- information that can help me reach and engage them. What's most important, perhaps, is that when I ask students questions, I ask with an open heart and an open mind -- willing to listen to whatever they say, as well as willing to listen for what's not said. Everyone deserves to be listened to.
My goal is to coach students to be successful English communcators and achieve their goals. I strive every day to discover the best way to help students develop their English skills (online and in person tutoring).

I have over 10 years of experience helping students effectively communicate in English. I thoughtfully prepare and deliver lessons to meet your specific needs.

My personalized tutorials help improve the English language skills most important to you. Your English conversation, listening, reading, and writing skills will improve after just a few lessons. In addition, I offer pronunciation and accent reduction lessons. My lessons include information to help you succeed and prosper in your community.

In addition, I have worked as an executive in American businesses for over 10 years and can help you with language skills for the work place. I have experience in intermediate and advanced levels of English to young adults and business professionals.

I recently received my Master of Arts (MAE) in English as a Second Language (ESL) Education. I offer you the latest effective instructional techniques and methods of helping you reach your goals, expectations, and needs. I design lessons that are interesting and focus on your interest. My patience and sociable personality make my lessons helpful, effective, and fun.

My patience and sociable personality make my lessons helpful, effective, and fun. My students tell me I’m easy to talk to and one-to-one contact can be a powerful opportunity to connect.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have extensive global business experience as the development director for national organizations such as the Statue of Liberty Foundation, Save the Children, and the National Safety Council. My lessons include writing the scripts, public speaking strategies and speaking practice with feed back. Looking for a job? I offer lessons from writing resume, cover letters, thank you letters and follow up emails to interview practice. You will improve and develop networking skills to make business contacts and find a mentor.
I have taught Business English courses at International English Academies in Chicago. Working as a Freelance tutor, I have taught both General and Business English to adults on a one-to-one basis. My students have included, amongst others, the Vice Presidents at PepsiCo from Spain and France, the senior management at Gatorade from Spain, a trader at Citicorp from China, and a graphic designer at an international design firm from Korea. Senior management at BP from China, Senior management at GE from Brazil and more.

English

I am qualified to teach beginning, intermediate and advanced English, basic and complex grammar, integration of vocabulary, English composition and reading, critical thinking and composition, creative writing and ESL. I have a proven track record of helping students in academic and business context, both to native English speakers and ESL speakers from high school to post graduate levels. My students achieve their learning objectives through highly individualized and personalized instruction that best suits each student's needs.
My tutoring method uses latest effective instructional techniques by incorporating digital media, music, objects and photographs into the lesson plans. These materials engage students, reinforce material covered and connect students with their own environment and culture, as well as with other cultures. This method creates a direct, sensory connection between learners and their subjects that results in new levels of interest and attention. Research shows that teaching with multi sensory methods also creates students with higher levels of visual literacy.

She is a great tutor!

I’m Japanese and I was looking for a tutor who had experience with teaching Japanese and could start from the basics. It was lucky for me to find Judy. Although I had a limited vocabulary and my grammar was poor, she listened to me kindly and patiently so I was able to speak in English without hesitating and being shy. She was also very friendly so I felt like I was talking with my friends and cou
