Northwestern University (Theatre, Philosophy)
Hey there! Let me tell you a bit about my background and the type of teaching I do. I was born and raised in Oakland, California where I attended the Head-Royce School. Soon thereafter, I set out for the Midwest to attend Northwestern University. In 2007, I graduated as a Dean's List student with a double major in Theatre and Philosophy, and I have been active in the arts and education fields ever since. Although I have split my time between Los Angeles and Chicago since graduation, I am currently living and working in Chicago as a teacher, actor, and artist.
I have been a teacher and tutor for the past seven years on the West Coast and in Chicago. I have led seminars and served as an instructor at academic institutions such as UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, and the University of San Diego. I have also worked with several of the industry's leading academic companies such as RevolutionPrep, Education Unlimited, FunSmart Education, and the Stanford Humanities Lab. I have extensive experience in test preparation for the ACT, SAT, and SAT II Subject Tests. I also tutor most school subjects in grades 7-12, specializing in all levels of math and science, and I have training and experience working with students with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia and ADD/ADHD.
I also offer specialized guidance in essay writing, and can assist with research papers, argumentative essays, standardized test essays, college admissions essays, and creative writing. In the Summer of 2009, I served as the lead Writing Instructor and College Counselor at Education Unlimited's College Admissions Prep Camp, where I guided students through the difficult admissions process, covering everything from finding the right colleges, completing application work, crafting personal statements, learning admissions strategies, and conducting college interviews. I have experience working in the Admissions Office of a Big 10 University, and currently work as a private college consultant for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
I am a dedicated, energetic teacher who always sets the bar high for myself and my students. And, most importantly, I always leave my clients thoroughly satisfied and impressed with the progress that my students have accomplished. Please contact me if you have any questions about my background, experience, or the many types of services I provide! Thanks for visiting... and I hope to hear from you soon! Hey there! I'm not sure why it was so easy to find this website because it was the answer to our prayers. Things just seem to fall into place when we found Brett for ACT help for my High School Senior. Located near my neighborhood, Brett proved to be punctual, patient, understanding, concise in his direction & teaching and extremely thorough in all subjects on the ACT college admission test. He was in no way condescending or impatient and let my daughter know her difficulties were common when taking this test. After their first two hour session, I privately asked my daughter if she believed Brett was helping and she stated, absolutely yes! I was completely prepared to have them continue to meet, but because of Brett's ability to diagnose her weakness during their first two hour session, both he and my daughter felt comfortable in ending the tutoring at the end of their second two hour session. He resolved in four hours what we had been trying to accomplish in five months! I can't say every student will have the great results we have had, but personally, our experience has been amazing.
As a Mom who has watched her child struggle with the pressure of getting a good ACT score for college admission, I am overjoyed that we found Brett in time and totally wish I had found him and WyzAnt tutoring earlier. Brett was the missing link we needed and my daughter is actually looking forward to her retake of the ACT at the end of October. Thank you, Brett. There are no words that can express our thanks. Without the slightest hesitation, I would highly recommend Brett for any student struggling with the ACT test.
Update: My daughter retook the ACT after her help from Brett. ACT went up 4 points and she was accepted into her choice of college. I'm not saying this great of an outcome will happen for everyone, but it happened for us. Brett is exceptional!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
