As an ESL instructor and social worker, I believe it is essential to teach in a two-way, relational style. That is, while I may have certain knowledge and experience, I believe that it is the student's role to direct our work just as much as it is mine. I am interested in understanding what my students want to learn and how they would most benefit in their learning processes. Each individual has a unique learning style, and it is critical for me to adapt lessons to those styles in order to enhance the outcomes.
I currently teach conversational English, business English, and academic English online to people in China. Before that, I tutored adults from Spain in small groups in business and conversational English.
I have taught English to children, teens, and adults in India, Guatemala, and the U.S. I have tutored teens and young children in Spanish. I have tutored a 13-year old with autism in math and reading. In addition, I am highly proficient in speaking Spanish. In all of my teaching, I had to really use my creativity to make learning fun. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Self-taught healthy cook and blogger. I teach students simple ways to integrate more color and plant-based foods into their nutrition plan whatever their dietary preferences may be. I have a small catering business at this time in which I prepare healthy lunches for busy people.
