I have a BS in engineering physics and a minor in mathematics from the University of Illinois and an MS in electromagnetics and RF circuits from the University of Michigan. I studied math and science at a collegiate level for 6 years, and I currently apply the material I learned everyday in my work as an electrical engineer.
While at Michigan I was a teaching assistant in charge of three lab sections, 2 discussion sections, and 2 office hours for individual homework help for 2 semesters. I had the opportunity to work with about 30 students both in the classroom and individually each semester. I really enjoy teaching and love working with students individually.
I've excelled in each of the subjects for which I offer tutoring, and I'm always eager to help mitigate the anxiety or confusion that many students experience when they feel stuck or left behind. I offer $35/hour per student for groups of 2 and $30/hour per student for groups of 3 or 4. I limit sessions to 4 of fewer students in order to assure each student gets the attention they need.
Jon tutored my daughter for the AP Calculus exam. Jon was very easy to reach and very flexible in scheduling appointments. He came prepared for every lesson with study materials and old AP exams if my daughter did not have specific material to cover. My daughter found him to be very easy to talk to and very good at simplifying and explaining the material to her.
Jonathan is punctual. He proceeds through the lesson plan systematically with great patience. He teaches at a level where my son could understand. My son understood the entire lesson and regained his confidence back. We enjoyed having Jonathan as a tutor and plan to have him teach our children for many lessons to come.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a lot of experience with differential equations and applications of differential equations. I took both a differential equations class and a partial differential equations class while at the University of Illinois as part of my minor in mathematics, and I received A's in both courses. I was also a physics major and electromagnetics masters student. Both of these subjects require immense amounts of work with solving differential equations. These experiences have given me a strong background in the theory of differential equations, typical techniques for solving differential equations, and many real world applications of differential equations. I would be very happy to share this knowledge with you and help you master a challenging but very interesting subject.
I have a solid background in electrical engineering. I was an electrical engineering masters student at the University of Michigan and received A's in all of my electrical engineering course work. Currently, I work as a professional electrical engineer at Motorola, where I design circuits and printed circuit boards for Motorola's premier smart phones. Furthermore, my strong background in physics has given me a deeper understanding of the fundamental phenomena taking place in many electrical engineering situations. This understanding is helpful in developing intuition about electrical engineering problems as well as understanding the reasons why certain equations or processes work the way they do. I have a very strong background in linear algebra. I took a 400 level course in linear algebra while at the University of Illinois as part of my minor in mathematics, and I received an A in this course. Also, as a physics major I was required to have a very solid understanding of linear algebra for its very common use in quantum mechanics and Hamiltonian dynamics. Seeing these real world applications of linear algebra has also given me a wealth of examples and a respect for where a rather abstract subject like linear algebra can be used in solving physical and practical problems.
