About Bryan

I find that a love of learning leads a student to constantly seek to improve themselves beyond school and throughout life. I don't teach a student to regurgitate information, I focus on enjoying the time spent truly comprehending the fundamental concepts and how each applies to the real world.

My love of learning has provided the skills to previously manage an IT Service Division at a major electrical company, sit third in the chain of a Training Department for a major sales company, and pursue my passion as a professional actor.

I graduated with a 4.0 from Northern Illinois University, and currently hold an MFA in Theatre Performance. My test scores throughout school were always at least in the 90th Percentile. I excelled in Math and English, but also began working on computers when I was 6. Instead of a typical summer job in High School, I began Computer Tutors: tutoring in typing, computer use and best practices, MS Office, and hardware assembly and maintenance.

I continue to teach Theatre: acting, stage combat, movement and speech. I have been performing professionally since 1998. Recent teaching credits include Chicago's Second City Conservatory, Northern Illinois University, and Elmhurst College.

I do not believe in learning by wrote, but instead try to teach the function and procedure first: learn how to build the formula, not just the answers will be. A scientist will always have a periodic table to reference and a mathematician will always have a calculator to use; learning should be about how and why things work, not just the answer on the other side.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Microsoft Outlook

I was previously the Service Coordinator (Department Head) for a major electrical company in Chicago. All communication and scheduling was done through Outlook.

Microsoft Windows

I was reviously a Field Technician and eventually the Service Coordinator (Department Head) for a major electrical company in Chicago. All applications required an in depth knowledge of Windows and OSX, including command line, registry, and file structure knowledge, as well as administrator principles and use of configuration and batch commands.

Theatre

I have been a professional Actor, Director, and Teacher since 1998. I hold an MFA from Northern Illinois University in Theatre Performance. I am a Company Member and Business Director of The Organic Theatre Company.
