I have taught 5th grade, 7th grade, college-level classes, and was a Principal for 7 years. I also used to manage the standardized testing program for a prominent Chicago private high school. I am a graduate of an east coast ivy league school, but have been in Chicago since grad school. Although I was a Principal, I am not mean!! I will work with you to achieve the academic goals you have. I love young people, including elementary, high school and college students. I have three children of my own (14, 7, and 4). My strengths are in Math, Writing, and strategic test-taking. I look forward to working with you.

Our 8 year old is in a CPS selective enrollment school and we found that the old way of doing math differs from the common core way of doing it. Courtney F. to the rescue. She is very professional and patient with our daughter.
We used Courtney's help to prepare for a writing portion of ISAT exam. She was very efficient, always had each session planed ahead and it worked! My daughter had worked with Courtney for just four weeks and it helped her to get from 2 to 4 on ISAT extended reading response. Thank you!
Would highly recommend Courtney to anybody who is looking to boost their writing score.
Courtney had been a great teacher for my kids, she prepared them for the academic High School exam. She had been pleasant, on time and helped them a lot. Thanks Courtney!!!
My son worked with Courtney to prepare for the writing portions of the ACT and SAT. I actually teach college writing, but sometimes what is hard to take from a mom comes much easier from someone else. Since I teach writing, I can say that Courtney clearly knew what she was doing when she worked with my son.
My son reported that Courtney was "personable, not intimidating or demeaning," that she had a comprehensive understanding of writing for the tests (beyond what he could find online or from test prep books), and that she is good at explaining the rules while also showing how they did not have to constrict his ability to express himself.
Courtney was also a pleasure to work with, responding quickly to my queries, sending me thoughtful assessments of my son's progress, and being understanding when he had to cancel at the last minute. I highly recommend her.
We loved our math session with Courtney. Our daughter was relaxed, inspired and thrilled to learn. She can't wait to work with Courtney again.
Courtney F has been a lifesaver for our family. She helped my grandson bring his math grade from an F to a B after just a few sessions. She's phenomenal!
My daughter and I have employed Courtney F through WyzAnt for the past two years. Courtney's tutoring of my grandson made a huge difference in not only his grades, but also in his confidence as a student. We are extremely pleased with her teaching methods along with the positive results that we have seen in my grandson. My grandson looks forward to having Courtney review his lessons with him. We love the fact that Courtney never missed a scheduled day and arrived on time. During the end of the school term, we needed some additional assistance and she rearranged her schedule to help my grandson during finals. May God Bless Courtney for the good things she has taught my grandson.
Courtney has a very patient, yet innovative style of tutoring. Courtney currently tutors my 7 year old daughter in math, once a week. My daughter gets along very well with Courtney, and constantly talks about her "tutor" to anyone that will listen.
In the short time that she has worked with Courtney, I have seen tremendous improvement in my daughter's math skills. In one instance my daughter recd a timed mathematics quiz at school, in which she did not score very well (60%). She got several of the problems wrong, and was unable to finish the test. This was before Courtney. Once I met with Courtney and explained the problem areas that my daughter was having in math, Courtney reassured me that she would do her best, to help my daughter in math. Needless to say....2 weeks later, my daughter took a similar test....82%!
We owe a large portion of this score to Courtney, and we will continue to allow her to tutor my daughter long after she has "aced" mathematics. Highly recommended!
We remain delighted that Courtney is our son's pre-algebra tutor and that her assistance enhances his learning and keeps him accountable
Courtney has tutored me in preparation for my GED. I came to her because I wanted someone who could help me speed up my learning process. The combination of being from another country (thus a different educational system) plus having Attention Deficit Disorder has often stopped my studies dead in their tracks. My weakest subjects have been math and writing. SHE HAS HELPED ME WITH EVERYTHING! Not only was she great at teaching an adult learner but she really understood that I might approach certain subjects differently. She helped me to learn using the methods that worked best for me. She's very supportive and I'm all the better for having worked with her. Without hesitation, I recommend Courtney to anyone seeking a professional and experienced educator.
I can't believe how kind, sweet, and patient she is with my daughter. She is a very special person...and very smart!!! Katie is learning so much from her. I hope she continues to tutor children, because she definitely has a gift. Thanks for finding her for us!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra 1 is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I am intimately familiar with multiple-step equations, graphing, systems of equations, and all of the rules that are associated with algebra. What I have found is that some students become confused with the introduction on a single variable or multiple variables. My approach is to describe the role of variables in a way that makes algebra far less intimidating.
The college application process is the most exciting time for a high school student. When a student are guided and exposed to various options, wonderful opportunities present themselves. The college counseling process has many important steps, all of which are crucial to student success. The first step in this process, of course, is working with the student to identify their interests and goals. Once these interests and goals are identified, families can methodically sort the college brochures, based on whether they highly competitive, competitive, and "safety schools". In these troubled economic times, prospects for financial aid are an important consideration. For this reason, school endowment and scholarship prospects should be examined also. The college application itself can seem quite intimidating. The application process is rigorous, but as a college counselor, we would set a timetable for completion of each application. Application essays will be revised and re-revised, until they are strong and can "stand on their own". College applications are have increased at most colleges, so it is very important to be prepared and competitive. I am here to help you with any portion of the process!!!
My undergraduate major was Economics, but I fell in love with Economics when I took it during my entire senior year of high school. I am very comfortable with both Microeconomics (the actions of businesses and individuals) and Macroeconomics (an examination of the entire economy), having taught both subjects at a local two-year college. I help students to understand the subject using real-life examples, and I utilize graphs to make economics come to life.
I am in the process of getting my second master's degree, and it is an MA in Applied Linguistics: ESL. I currently teach ESL at a local university, where my focus is reading, writing, and conversation. I have worked with students from China, Ecuador, India, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Mexico.
I have a Master's degree in Social Work and a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics. I teach Social Work Research levels I II, and III at a university in my city, where I work full time. In short, I help students to structure research proposals all the time. Although I live in Hyde Park, I work near Skokie.
