About Jessica

Hello! My name is Jessica and I'm 29 years old. I'm currently a 6th grade teacher at a Chicago Public School. I have been teaching for 7 years. I went to the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana where I majored in Elementary Education and minored in math. I did a lot of tutoring throughout my years there. I tutored both primary and upper grades in all subjects. I received my first master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education, then decided to continue my education by getting another master's in Educational Leadership. I consider my teaching style non-traditional and believe in a balanced education. I deal with diverse learners everyday and feel I can accommodate to any type of learner to fit their specific needs. I hope you consider me as your tutor! Hello! My name is Jessica and I'm 29 years old. I'm currently a 6th grade teacher at a Chicago Public School. I have been teaching for 7 years. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I feel I am qualified to tutor elementary (k-6th) because I am Illinois State Certified to teach the following grades. I have had experience in the Kindergarten level, and 3rd-6th. I especially think I am qualified because I also have special endorsements in middle school grades, Language Arts, Math, and Social Sciences.

ESL/ESOL

I obtain a bilingual education certificate. Currently, I teach at a school where about 85% of the student population are ESL students, mostly Spanish speaking. I have been teaching at the school for 7 years and have a lot of experience dealing with ESL students and accommodating their needs. This is why I feel I am qualified to tutor ESL students and programs.

Phonics

I feel I am qualified to tutor phonics because it is a key element in my balanced literacy program where I currently teach. Teaching 3rd grade for the past 3 years and always teaching phonics, gives me great experience and practice. For the first 2 years of teacing 3rd grade, there was no phonics program in my school, so I had to find my own resources to implement phonic study in my class.

Spanish

I am ESL endorsed and have taught bilingual classrooms. I am also fluent and proficient in the language.
