About Kay

After 11 years as a classroom teacher, I became involved in the educational publishing industry in sales, sales management and training. We have had a growing horse farm for the last 12 years where we raise horses, give riding lessons and board horses. I have a master's degree in Reading/Language Arts.
I have experience in corporate training, proposals, writing grants and much more, but helping young people find success through better reading and writing is my greatest joy. There is not one way to teach anything, and my goal with each student is to determine the best avenue to learning and to focus on success.
I was a classroom teacher in a number of grades, including 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th, as well as a reading specialist and corporate training director. I specialize in struggling readers, but also have great remedial skills in math and writing. I am up-to-date on what is being used in our schools today, having presented and demonstrated to teachers and students.
We have a riding lesson program at our farm, so that a family could decide to begin with the tutoring and add on the riding lessons, as incentive or convenience. In addition, the educational resources I have at our disposal are immense. I have over 5,000 books and many teaching materials accumulated over the course of 20 years in education, all available when applicable the the student's specific needs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
