About Michael

Hello my name is Michael but I prefer to be called Mike. I am looking to make some of my free time more productive so I signed up on here hoping to help those in need. Before starting here I had no formal tutoring experience, but now that I've tutored multiple clients who are all satisfied with the results, I feel very confident that I can help any student.

I've been programming since middle school and it has been a major part of my life for the last 8 years. It all started after taking a simple game making summer camp course where I learned how to make basic Mario like games using drag and drop logic. Despite being so basic, it laid down the foundation needed for logical thinking which is the core of programming. From there I spent a lot of time developing games that got more and more complicated which eventually got me to learn GML (Game Maker Language), my first real programming language. Things only took off after that, I learned Python and Java in high school while learning C# on my own with friends and then spent 2 years in Florida attending Full Sail University for the Game Development program. I am currently employed full time at Frasca International as a software engineer where I work on flight simulators putting all of the skills I learned to use.

Don't be afraid to come to me about any programming problems you may have. The beauty of programming is that every issue can be solved with enough persistence which I am more than willing to give.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C#

C# was my first real self taught programming language. Thanks to its similarities to Java, I was able to quickly learn it and use the XNA framework to develop games with my friends. During my time in Full Sail, I used C# many times which included using .NET to create a map editor tool for mid project and creating scripts in Unity.

C++

C++ is the central language we learn at Full Sail. Our first 3 general programming classes focused on directly learning the basics and syntax of C++, and a majority of our programming classes after would use C++ to teach concepts. I spent my final 5 months of Full Sail working on a group final project which was primarily coded in C++, with a final GPA of 3.19.

Python

Python was my first formally taught programming language in my intro to programming course I took in 10th grade. Throughout the years after, I have dabbled in it from time to time when necessary. Thanks to the simplicity of the language, it is easy to pick up again no matter how long of a break taken. Given that python is typically taught as an intro language, I believe I am ready to teach those using it to learn programming as a whole.

Best tutor for Java — Mike has been nothing but patient with me. He clearly understands programming and can teach it more simply so you can easily understand concepts. I have learned a lot from him and hope to have him help me for the rest of my semester. I would recommend him to anyone!! ...
