About Madeline

My name is Madeline and I am a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign majoring in history. I will graduate in 3 years come spring 2018, and will go straight to graduate school to obtain my master's degree in Education. I'm studying to be a high school social studies teacher.

I worked for Kumon for two years in high school tutoring students K-12 in math and reading. I took 10 AP classes in high school, numerous honors courses and was salutatorian; I am happy to help with difficult and rigorous coursework as well as study strategies, balancing your academics and classes, and homework, project, or paper writing. I also received a 31 on my ACT, with a 35 on the English section. I am also an elementary and middle school chess and science teacher. I tutor privately through Wyzant and through the company Premier Tutoring.

I believe I possess the potential to influence and support every student in realizing the power of learning and the impact it can have. I always hope for students to take away the power of their education and the lengths to which it can take them in their lives and bettering themselves as citizens of their society. This is why I tutor and eventually want to teach; school and learning can transform every area of your life and assist you in understanding yourself, the people around you, and the global workforce you will enter after your schooling years. Knowledge and the excitement to learn will enrich not only your academic coursework and classes, but your life as well.

I'm excited to help you reach your academic goals. I hope you can feel excited about school, learning, and the subjects you're currently working on during and after your time with me. I am flexible and very willing to work with you on your personal goals. I am here to listen and be mindful of the goals you wish to achieve through our time together.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I am currently a chess instructor with the company Chess Scholars. I teach students K-6 at all levels. I teach a curriculum based on a belt system (similar to karate) and am solely responsible for the curriculum and instruction for my students.
