About Sean

My name is Sean. I'm a journalist and a writer by profession, but a music and sports enthusiast at heart. I love teaching the things I love to others because I believe in the idea of having passions in your life. I've taught others in a wide-array of situations, from tutoring high school students after school to managing multiple writing staffs, helping them perfect their craft. I'd love to help more students continue to develop a love and deep knowledge of the subjects they're passionate about.

I've been a writer in many different fashions over the past decade, whether it be academic or journalistic. Academically, I've gone through every writing course from grade school phonics to AP English courses in high school, to college English courses. In the professional world, I've written for a number of different magazines and newspapers, covering everything from hard news to sports, to arts and culture. I've started my own publication, as well as having managed multiple writing staffs in my experience, from daily newspapers to alt-weekly magazines, to satirical newspapers. Writing is my expertise and I'd love to teach your student everything I've been lucky enough to learn in my life.

I've been a singer-songwriter for more than a decade and have played in different musical projects from country projects to punk bands. I've written hundreds of songs over my career that have been featured on radio stations across the country and have been released via multiple record labels. I've toured as a musician, worked as a journalist covering music, and have grown up around others who play music internationally as well and can provide not just lessons on songwriting, but lessons on how to become the best musician possible in all aspects of the word.

I've grown up as an athlete from the day I was born. I was raised by a family of athletes that played everything from professional baseball to college basketball and more. I'm an expert in the fundamentals of the sports and can teach your student not only the efficient way to play the game, but more importantly the proper way. In addition to playing baseball, basketball, football, and lacrosse throughout my life, I've also worked as a sports journalist, learning the game from an objective perspective as well. I've also played chess throughout my life, whether it was recreational or with my peers in after-school clubs. I believe it's important for students to not only to take healthy breaks from their demanding academic schedules, but to exercise your brain while you do it.

Please contact me for any lessons listed in my profile. I'm excited to get the opportunity to help your student learn more about the subjects they love and help them continue to grow not just as students, but well-rounded individuals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

My experience with chess has traditionally been casual, but has been so expansive that my knowledge of the game has become innate. I grew up playing chess with my father and against friends, and then became a member of an afterschool chess club in high school where I continued to play in addition to playing with friends outside of school. I've played a vast array of styles and formats, whether in a piece-by-piece count (a more casual style of play) or a point count (the traditionally competitive style of play). I strongly believe in the sport's therapeutic, yet thought-exercising benefits and am excited to share this experience with students.
