I excel at explaining technical concepts to creative people, and creative concepts to technical people. If you're overwhelmed by the number of buttons in Photoshop or Maya, or you know the software but want some help on making your stuff look great, I'd love to work with you. I also love to work with younger students, helping them launch their artistic journey.

If you're overwhelmed by the number of buttons in Photoshop or Maya, or you know the software but want some help on making your stuff look great, I'd love to work with you. I also love to work with younger students, helping them launch their artistic journey.

My Experience: I've been working at Volition on the Saints Row franchise for the last two years, focused on terrain creation, textures, and shaders. Prior to that I worked on a variety of smaller games as well as 3D art and pipeline tools for a marketing company. I attended California College of the Arts, where I earned a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Animation with a focus on modeling and texturing and graduated with high distinction. I have over a decade of experience as a tutor, starting as a software tutor for my fellow students while in college. Since then I have offered freelance tutoring, both through Wyzant's platform and other channels.

What I offer:
One Off Software Help: If you're new to a program, or need help figuring out how to achieve a particular effect, I can get you going in one or two sessions. I am comfortable teaching Photoshop, Blender, ZBrush, Unreal Engine, Houdini, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer.

Ongoing Art Mentorship: I can offer ongoing support in learning any mixture of digital art, traditional art, game design, and programming. This is great for middle to high school students considering pursuing digital art seriously, self-taught artists or recent college graduates looking to prepare a professional portfolio, or dedicated adult hobbyists. Message me to ask about rates for mentorships; I have options that are cheaper than my standard hourly rate. I'm also happy to offer free consultations to people considering a mentorship.

Programming for Creatives: If you come from a creative background and are looking to incorporate programming in your work, I can help you out. I can teach addon development for Blender using

Wonderful tutor that was patient with questions

Kevin helped me immensely with Python scripting in Blender as well as understanding and troubleshooting Blender Add-Ons. He also taught me some crucial workspace layout techniques.

Knows his stuff!

Kevin knows a ton about environment design, and was able to jam a lot into a short lesson. We only scratched the surface, so I’ll be doing another lesson, but I now feel competent navigating and using Blender!

Awesome tutor. In-depth explanations on each topic we covered.

The lesson was for Photoshop. Kevin helped me learn advanced photo editing techniques. He's very responsive and my skills have improved after the lesson.
