Success is a mutual reward! With each of my students, my main focus is on their specific needs and their learning styles. I base my lessons on the Illinois Learning Standards, my students' classroom expectations, and adding some fun for my students' engagement. I have taught many grade levels and excited to add these teaching strategies in my tutoring sessions. I use different styles of activities to get the students to develop math, reading, and writing skills. Designed to fit each of my student's need, visuals, hands on activities, games, and specific learning tools are implemented in each of my lessons. To ensure a solid lesson, I am consistently updating myself and learning the methods of teaching in schools, for example, the new math.
First, I find it important to understand "what my students already know" in the subject matter; their "prior knowledge"is important in how I teach. My students are engaged in what they are learning and connecting new information to their own life; making connections. Secondly, I apply specific teaching strategies to their learning style. By combining these crucial factors, my students have succeeded in reaching their goals. Finally, I implement assessments to ensure each of my students understand and retain what they learned. My goal is to consistently follow through from one lesson to the next.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When working with algebra or any math subjects, I work with the student to find the correct answer. I study with them and guide them in setting up an equation or understanding a new concept. I learn about what they already know and how they can apply this to what they are learning in our lesson. I learn about my student's learning style and math skills before I begin my algebra lesson. I choose different styles of teaching for all my students. I use visuals and connections with my student's life when applying algebraic concepts. During lessons, I first get to know each of my students and what they enjoy such as sports, music, hobbies, etc. and I incorporate these into lessons and homework. I also believe in reteaching if a student does not grasp a certain concept in algebra before continuing. Building a student's confidence in themselves is key to their success!

In the area of math and algebra, I have also tutored neighbor's and friends' children who were entering high school. I have an degree in accounting and have the desire and skills to teach and tutor students in math. I chose to go back to school and have taken math instruction courses(K-9) which enhanced my creativity on teaching math. I have received A's in my courses and my instructor recommended I concentrate in this subject when teaching. I am excited to continue aiding and tutoring students in all areas of math. I have the tools and strategies to work with any child who has difficulties in understanding math concepts. I love teaching all subjects, but math is my specialty. Working as a math aide for almost five years got me interested in getting my students excited about math. I find creative ways of getting students' attention and changing their view of the subject of "math". I include visual, audio, and hands on learning for all my students. I've work with all grade levels including K through high school. Math subjects have included elementary math, geometry, algebra, trig, and algebra 2. I ensure that my students understand the reasoning behind the different areas of math so they can make connections to their own world.
I have experience working with ESL students in classrooms and small group settings. Each student has unique learning styles, therefore I use different ESL strategies and methods when teaching and tutoring my students.
English is my second language. I can empathize with my students when learning a new language. I believe everyone can learn when given the chance!
Polish is my first language. It was the language spoken in my home. I also have attended Polish school up to the 6th grade. A few years back, I ran into my Polish school teacher and she encouraged me to teach Polish. I am very passionate about the language and practice speaking and writing with family and friends. Because I am fluent in Polish, I can understand many other Slavik languages and I have friends who I can communicate through the different languages and cultures.
I am qualified to teach or tutor those who would like to learn the beautiful Polish language. I can teach you spelling, how to conjugate verbs, grammar, speak, read, and write. I can help you with new sounds that come from the Polish language that can be difficult for those who are new to the language. Having someone to practice with is the key to learning and keeping up with a new language!
If you are also looking to learn about the Polish culture, I can work with you in the areas of traditions, history, foods, and the arts. I grew up in a Polish community and embraced the Polish traditions throughout my life. My parents and grandparents came here from Europe and we continue to share our Polish traditions.
My goal is to make pre-algebra/algebra fun for all my students. Most students have expressed their feelings about the word "math" in a negative way. Once they have worked with me, their confidence in math increases and the fear of math slowly disappears. Pre-algebra can be a new concept for many students and it is a stepping stone to the higher levels of math. Teaching algebra concepts to these students is key to success. I have the experience and the educational background to teach and work with these students to ensure they find the tools they need to succeed. I also have the patience and the creativity to provide each student the reason they need to learn pre-algebra and test taking skills. I base my tutoring of pre-algebra on my students' learning styles and I incorporate their hobbies and goals in life.
I have been teaching and tutoring students for over 5 years and have taken methods of teaching certification courses which include study skills. An important part of learning is having good study, note taking, and test taking skills. Before a student enters the next grade or takes the next test, I can provide the tools and strategies for learning to organize, prioritize, and prepare for each subject or exam. It is also crucial for a student to learn and develop their own style of study skills at an early age. As adults, some of us may take this for granted, but it is a learned skill with practice and the right tools. I find all students learn differently and I can help them find their own style of study skills that they can keep with them when entering the college, technical school, or the work place.
