About Cheryl

I am an enthusiastic Master’s level Curriculum and Instruction design specialist (MSEd) possessing an invested dedication to achieving student goals and objectives. I embrace specific interests with unique skills sets in supporting clients/students with challenging requirements that lend towards target audiences attaining success. Progressive, innovative and highly valued educator with the expertise to interpret client and student goals, translating objectives into actionable plans, and provide decisive leadership to effectively manage both education and business operations.

Additionally, I have experience in one-on-one tutoring from the elementary school level through the collegiate level as well as tutoring students with English as their second language to build English writing, reading and speaking skills.

I thoroughly enjoy tutoring for it affords the opportunity to utilize and apply my diverse skill sets for individuals to successfully achieve goals at its greatest level. My desire is for students/clients at all levels, including with special needs to develop and culture the gifts and talents that are within them for overall life success.

I hold a M.S.E.D (Master's of Science in Education) Concentration- Curriculum and Instruction. Several years in the Charter School system in special education and as a tutor. ESL tutor consultant. As a life-long learner, I hold myself to high standards as well as the client/student. I challenge my students to produce the best at their level of ability, however, help them to discover abilities not yet explored. Homework assignments will be supplied and encourage engagement of parents to utilize teachable moments in daily living to broaden skill sets (where applicable), very conscientious to provide ongoing assessments after each class, including periodic assessments to make adjustments when required.

My schedule is flexible to accommodate client/student needs. However, I require a 24 hour cancellation notice, with the opportunity to makeup tutoring session.

I am willing to discuss tutoring location in the effort to ensure the most appropriate and effective environment based on the student's learning style, including challenges.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

Possess a MSEd: Curriculum Development and Instruction/ Elementary Education. In addition, I have earned 40 credit hours in Master’s of Arts in Education/certification graduate level program. I have taught in the Charter school system for 4 years in grades 1st through 8th. Experienced in assessments, differentiated instruction, and special education.

Special Needs

As a State of Illinois certified licensed paraprofessional and certified N.T.A. tutor. I possess over 6 years of experience instructing students in a Charter school and private special needs school setting, from the 3rd grade level to high school level. I am skilled in instructing students with various levels of challenges, from mild to severe cognitive and physical as well as students who are non-verbal. I am responsible for ensuring compliance with IEP requirements, and skilled in utilizing differentiated instruction. Additionally, I have over 30 college semester hours in special education and elementary education in a state certified MAT/ED program. I possess a MSED-Curriculum Instruction degree.
