I have taught elementary and secondary school for many years. I have a background in Reading and Special Education. I attended NIU, where I earned a BA in Education and CSU where I earned a MA in Special Education. My life long goal was always to become a teacher. I have had the privilege of seeing many of my students achieve at an extraordinary level. I believe that all students are capable of learning and reaching their desired goals. Hard work and discipline are key to achieving these goals.
I specialize in improving reading comprehension, vocabulary, attention to detail, note taking, and organization. I will give each student a brief reading test and determine which skills he/she is deficient in. Next, I will develop a series of lessons and activities to address specific skills. This will ensure that the student has an academic plan in place.
I try to be flexible with time. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I offer makeup classes when emergencies occur. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
I have taught 1st grade through 12th grade. Therefore, I know the skills a student needs to know when they enter school as well as exit school. It is important that students receive a curriculum that prepares he/she to be a successful reader. I am able to communicate effectively with all students and clarify the smallest details because of my background in Special Education. In addition, I was the coordinator for Aim High reading program for struggling readers.
I am an outstanding tutor because I provide students with the tools they need in order to be successful. I make learning fun and allow students to improve skills they are deficient in, by modeling, repetition, and skill based lessons.
I have a Masters in Special Education and have provided the needed instruction for many students to attend college.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
