I am a dedicated and happy person. I love to teach and I have great success in a one on one setting. I have been teaching since I was in elementary school. As an eighth grader, I was selected along with other students in the honors class to teach the Metric System to the primary children. The rest is history. I come from a family of educators. You could say it's our family business. My Christianity is very prevalent in my life and I believe my love of teaching is my gift from God.
I have been a teacher professionally for the past 30 years. I have taught preschool, elementary and high school students. I have also taught GED courses to veterans. I enjoy working with students of all ages. I have tutored neighbors' children, church members' children and even my own child, when they had subjects that they needed extra help with.
I have been teaching with the Chicago Board of Education for my whole career. I am currently the Technology Coordinator where I am employed. I have been the Math and Science Coordinator for a previous school.
I have had numerous successes with my students, professionally and personally. My children (previous and current students) love me because I am an outgoing, fair and concerned teacher. When I was teaching Middle School Science, my seventh graders advanced 10 percentage points over the scores of the previous seventh graders in the ISAT (Illinois Standards Achievement Test). When I taught 5th graders for eight years, my students always ranked in second place for improved test scores on the ITBS (Iowa Test Of Basic Skills) at our school.
Teaching is my passion and I bring my love of knowledge and children together to be the teacher that my students love and remember. I have even had students that have come to see me after graduation and say "Thank You". I am a dedicated and happy person. I love to teach and I have great success in a one on one setting. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have Illinois Certification in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I have been teaching in the Chicago Public School system for over 30 years. I have taught all grades from PreK - 10 Grades.
