About Edward

My name is Edward, I have a background in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and I have been a College Reading and Learning Association Certified Tutor and Mentor for over ten years. I have worked with various programs such as the South Shore School of Leadership, the South Suburban College Academic Assistance Center, the Office for Students with Disabilities and Educational Talent Search (which included teaching ACT/SAT test preparation courses). I tutor multiple subjects including math (elementary school mathematics all the way up to Calculus), science (Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Anatomy/Physiology) as well as English and Philosophy, to name a few.

I specialize in one-on-one tutoring sessions with elementary, middle and high-school age children and students of all ages with special needs (ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, poor study skills or test-taking anxiety). I am patient and persevere until my students grasp the concepts they need to be successful and confident when completing their schoolwork and taking tests. My tutoring style is to build upon a student's previous knowledge and experiences in order to make learning new information (no matter what subject) fun and easy-to-remember.

I enjoy explaining complex concepts in simple terms and look forward to helping those in the community for many years to come.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

My name is Edward and I specialize in tutoring children and adults with special needs (learning disabilities, test-taking anxiety as well as ADD/ADHD). I have been a tutor for Educational Talent Search and the Office for Students with Disabilities for several years, tutoring various subjects including algebra, English (writing and grammar), science and computers. I am patient and persevere until my students grasp the concepts they need to be successful and confident in their abilities. Additionally, I live in the area and am happy to travel to assist my students at their convenience.

Algebra 2

I have been tutoring Algebra, Chemistry and Biology (of which Genetics is a part) for over ten years. I have successfully tutored high school students as well as Nursing and Pre-Med students at South Suburban College, Purdue University Calumet and University of Illinois-Circle Campus (among others). My educational background is Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and Doctor of Pharmacy from Chicago State University.

ASVAB

I have over ten years experience as a mentor and part-time tutor for various programs such as the South Shore School of Leadership Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. and Educational Talent Search (which included teaching ASVAB and ACT/SAT test preparation courses). Additionally, I tutor various subjects including math (elementary school mathematics through calculus), science (Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Anatomy/Physiology) as well as English and Philosophy.

I currently am a third-year Doctor of Pharmacy student who scored in the 98th percentile on the Pharmacy College Admission Test the first time. I enjoy putting my professional and personal experiences to use helping students confidently and successfully pass the ASVAB their first time taking it.

Elementary (K-6th)

In my years working as a tutor and mentor for Educational Talent Search, I conducted many one-on-one tutoring sessions with elementary school aged children and students of all ages with special needs (ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, poor study skills or test-taking anxiety).

I am patient and persevere until my students grasp the concepts they need to be successful and confident when completing their schoolwork and taking tests. My signature tutoring style is to build upon a student's previous knowledge, interests and experiences in order to make learning new information (no matter what subject) fun and easy-to-remember. Additionally, I have three children of my own (ages 17, 13, and 9) and I can empathize with parents who want the best for their children and want their children to be successful in life.

Microbiology

My name is Edward, I have a background in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and I have been a College Reading and Learning Association Certified Tutor and Mentor for over ten years. I have worked with various colleges such as the Nursing and Pharmacy Technician programs in South Suburban College Academic Assistance Center where I tutored multiple subjects including science (Biology, General and Organic Chemistry, Microbiology and Anatomy/Physiology) and math (elementary school mathematics all the way up to Calculus). Additionally, I completed Microbiology and Immunology as part of my Doctor of Pharmacy program with A's in both classes.
