During my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to create a writing program in District 21, Wheeling, IL, and continued to use it in District 25, Arlington Heights, IL. My students have enjoyed the opportunity to be creative in their writings and have had the ability to enhance their skills in narrative, persuasive, and expository writings.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught for 39 years, focusing on literature and language arts. My strengths in language arts have been creating a writer's workshop incorporating expository, persuasive, and narrative writings. In order for my students to write well, they need a strong handle for grammar skills. I have taught them to allow their voices to be heard in their writing; and if they have strong language skills, they will succeed.
